An evaluative study of a resource centre within a community learning centre with particular reference to Tembaletu Community Education Centre.

Lombo, Sipho. January 1998 (has links)
The objective of the study was an evaluation of the Tembaletu Resource Center within the Tembaletu Community Education Center. The Resource Center was evaluated in terms of its objectives. Each objective formed the basis for the subsequent research questions. The evaluation was from the perspectives of the three major user groups namely the teachers, the registered students and outside users. A survey was conducted whereby information was obtained from each group by means of a semi-structured questionnaire. Major findings in terms of the objectives were: many teachers, students and the general users use the Resource Center to read books and study, teachers read literacy books, many users have never bought literacy books for sale as many were unaware of this service, resource-based work has been given to students by teachers and this was seen to be a worthwhile exercise, more than half of the users had not borrowed educational videos, users had found information that helped them solve their personal problems although many users had never used the computer to access information. Lack of awareness of many of the services by users was indicated and was regarded as the stumbling block to the full use of the Resource Center. Recommendations based on the findings of the evaluation were made and this was followed by suggestions for further research. / Thesis (M.I.S.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 1998.

Respektování práv jedinců s mentálním postižením a školní integrace / Recognizing of rights of mentally disabled individuals and school integration.

CZINEGOVÁ, Eva January 2009 (has links)
The attitude of society towards persons with mental disabilities and recognizing their rights and dignity are important evaluation aspects of the society. The Czech Republic follows modern European trends that provide the mentally disabled with the same extent of activities as people without disabilities. As a topic of my thesis I have chosen the mentally disabled children´s right to education. The thesis addresses attitudes of primary school headmasters as well as attitudes of the staff of special education centers for children and youths with mental disabilities to integration of pupils with mental disabilities into a regular primary school. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with important documents discussing the rights of individuals with mental disabilities. It describes not only mental disability and its degrees, but in particular education of children with mental disabilities in schools set up for pupils with special educational needs and the possibility of integrating these pupils into mainstream education. The theoretical part is followed by the practical part. The objective of the thesis was to identify the attitude of primary school headmasters as well as that of the staff of a special education center for the mentally disabled staff to the integration process of children with mental disabilities into mainstream primary schools and implementation of the right to education of children with mental disabilities. The research was conducted by the interrogation method using anonymous questionnaires. The results show that a majority of primary schools headmasters in the South Bohemian region support the right to education of pupils with mental disabilities in the form of their integration into regular classrooms. All the respondents, both primary school headmasters and the special education center staff, give the priority at education to individual learning abilities of each child with a mental disability. At the integration of a pupil with a mental disability into a regular primary school the crucial criterion is health and social motivation, not economic motivation. This thesis can be used as a survey of current attitudes and opinions of primary school headmasters and special education centers´ staff on the possibility of pupils with mental disabilities integration into mainstream education.

Faktory změny postojů k ekologickým tématům jako východisko pro ekologickou výchovu / Factors in attitude changes: base for environmental education

Kotěra, Jan January 2014 (has links)
The thesis addresses attitude changes towards environmental problems. It looks for the factors that affect the attitude change and compares their importance. With regard to particular factors it suggests how to work more efficiently on changing the attitudes. The theoretical part gives an overview of environmental education. It follows its history in the Czech Republic and abroad, and describes its current objectives, topics and methods. It also discusses today's Czech public perception of environmental issues. The key chapter of the thesis addresses attitudes. It describes their formation, structure and basic functions and most importantly the circumstances under which they may change. With the help of literature, it defines eight fundamental factors that act to attitude change, and finds examples in environmental education. At the end of the theoretical part, recommendations are offered on what tools we should focus when trying to change attitudes. The research part presents the inquiry among selected environmental education centres' staff. It figures out how they work with the issue of attitude changes and how they take advantage of their clients' feedback. In the first place, it uses their experience to find the most important factors in attitude changes . The conclusion compares the findings...
