Using system dynamics to study the operation model of the English cram school

Chen, Xiao-Ling 14 August 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, we try to understand the dynamic and complicated problems during operating the English cram school by building up a system dynamics model, and figure out the relation among the key variables. Through simulating the model and testing current policies, we can find out a better operation model and strategy. The key variables in this model are: amount of students, amount of classes, and amount of teachers, teaching quality, and finance. Especially, we add some soft variables in the model, such as: teachers¡¦ pressure and customer cognitive quality. The soft variables are the main connections between the streams, and it is not possible to ignore them while running a business. Conclusion of the thesis: 1. The students enrolling activity should be kept up with the working capacity inside the cram school. Otherwise, the increasing pressure on teachers will cause the teaching quality and reputation decline. 2. In this case, the cram school has a kind policy to help slower students make up their grades, but it¡¦s not the fundamental solution to the problem. If we try to decrease the amount of class per teacher, the slower students will be fewer, teaching quality will be improved and total students number will grow. 3. The advantage of cram school is from teachers¡¦ commitment and stability; a high turnover rate is hard for reputation accumulation, teaching experience sharing, and will also decrease the trust of parents to this cram school.

Interest in this research arises from the concern with the formation of the Brazilian worker at the technical level. A worker who loses every time the voice and time. It should be noted that education in this study, it is not dealt with the tight economic, and social events. We tried to recover, through the report of the first director of School Technique Estate Pedro Ferreira Alves, the local press and the Multi-Year Plan/2009, the trajectory of the school since its inception till the year 2009. In this context, it was felt that it would take to score the legislation relating to industrial and technical education, later teaching professional to verify this flagship. As a way of subsidizing analysis, talked about theoretical laws focused on technical education, the relationship between work and education and the world of work. Since then, it was empirical research whose methodology consisted of semi-structured interviews recorded with the direction and coordination of courses geared to industry offered by School Technique Estate Pedro Ferreira Alves above in order to investigate how the framework of an institution technique in the framework of the neoliberal system established. We detected considerable part of truancy. It was felt that the training of the worker is only through the school walls, but through their social relations, demystifying the neoliberal logic that the school is solely responsible for the education of the worker. It was also parallelism between legislation focused on the technical education and liberal logic.

Globalizing Canadian education from below : a case study of transnational immigrant entrepreneurship between Seoul, Korea and Vancouver, Canada

Kwak, Min-Jung 11 1900 (has links)
This study explores a form of transnational economy that involves cross border movements of students, families and business people that are motivated by education. A main objective of the study is to explore the interplay of structural factors and the agency of migrants in the development of this industry. Using interview data collected in Seoul, Korea and Vancouver, Canada, this study demonstrates that the globalization of the international education industry is not simply an economic process but a by-product of complex relations between many economic and non-economic factors. The intensification of globalization in general, and the rise of neo-liberalism in particular, have introduced macro structural changes in the political economies of both Korea and Canada that have had important implications for growth in the education industry. The role of nation-states is critical in that both Korean and Canadian national governments have delivered more relaxed policies regulating international migration and educational flows between the two countries. At the local level, both public and post-secondary educational institutions in Vancouver have become actively engaged in recruiting fee-paying international students. Ordinary migrants, both permanent residents and temporary visitors, play an important role in promoting Canadian education in the global market as well. The successful recruitment activities of local schools (and school boards) have been facilitated by Korean international education agencies operating in Vancouver. Relying on close social and cultural linkages between Korea and Canada, the transnational entrepreneurial activities of Korean immigrants demonstrate how globalization actually works in practice. With strong motivation and spatial mobility, the rising demands of Korean students and their parents have also been an important precursor of recent industrial growth. This seemingly smooth growth of the international education industry between Seoul and Vancouver, however, masks more complex dynamics of the process. I provide four critiques on taken-for-granted approaches towards neo-liberalism and economic globalization. Exploring immigrant participation at the heart of the knowledge economy (education), this study also asks if the entrepreneurial opportunities that are being cultivated by Korean-immigrants represent an innovative shift from traditional and low-level ethnic niche economies toward more lucrative opportunities.
