The impact and the effectiveness of the child support grant in Gugulethu.

Jacobs, Liziwe Vinolia. January 2008 (has links)

The findings in this study demonstrate that the Child Support Grant is only effective if it is incorporated into the household income, that recipients of the grant mainly spend it on food and in paying school fees for their children. Although the recipients share the same sentiments with regards to the amount of the grant, they all agree that it does have a positive impact on the lives of the children, especially when it is combined with the household income.

On the effectiveness of writing strategies in promoting 13-15 years old Chinese ESL learners' writing ability

Peng, Gao January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of writing strategies in promoting 13-15 years old Chinese ESL learners’ writing ability. Two writing strategies I selected in this study are Julia's (in James 2000) 8-step writing strategy and Englert's (1991) POWER strategy. Both writing strategies are designed based on Hayes and Flower's (1989) theory of writing process but with different steps in guiding writing. According to their different functions, these two strategies can stand for two main kinds of writing strategies at present. The study included two questionnaires and two writing tests designed for fifteen Chinese students who were chosen randomly in grade 3 of a middle school. Through the analysis of these questionnaires, the students’ attitude to writing and the functions of writing strategies were collected in order to keep the two tests reliable and authentic. And then, the pre-test was used to evaluate these students' primary level of English writing; in the post-test, these students were divided into three groups: the first two groups received two writing strategies and the last one was no strategy group. The comparison of their writing results between the two tests were analysed. Both writing strategies groups in the post-test showed the effectiveness of the given writing strategies . Two writing strategies were chosen for this study according to the research objects' English level and cognitive capability. And the fifteen research objects chosen in Chinese middle school represent the average level of Chinese ESL learners in writing. The analysis of their results in both tests focused on the content of their writings and writing elements, such as, vocabulary, grammar, organization. In the qualitative research of the study, the 8-step writing strategy is shown to be the more effective one for 13-15 years old Chinese ESL learners.

The environmental and structural influences on rehabilitation performances of Different Rehabilitative Service models

Huang, Shu-yen 02 July 2004 (has links)
Study objectives and significance Generally, patients go to hospitals or clinical offices for seeking health care service. However, some studies reveal that old patient or those who have disability would get hurt and expose in some dangerous situation, such as falls and infection. As the reasons, the rehabilitation delivery model, which sends the service to patients¡¦ community, is needed. The community delivering-rehabilitation model that this study focuses on integrates hospital center and retirement home. This study is to compare the community delivering-rehabilitation model and general delivery model that patients go to hospital for rehabilitation service. Data and methods In one-year study duration from Nov. 1, 2002 to Oct. 31, 2003, the Barthel Index score from two delivery models were collected every 3 months. On the other hand, patients¡¦ rehabilitation costs were collected once 3 months, too. The study unit is individual unit. Cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) was used here to be a standard comparing tool. CEA was computed by dividing the cost that patient spent in 3 months into the Barthel Index score which patient improved his functional status. Independent variables include environmental factors and structural factors The Environment factors include rehabilitation delivery model and the patient-therapist ratio. Structural factors include chain-affiliation status, instrumental volume and status. The General Estimating Equation was used here for comparing longitudinal dependent data. Results The study reveals that environmental factors and structural factors affect the performance of rehabilitation units. Environmental factors positively affect the rehabilitation effect. Structural factors negatively affect the rehabilitation effect. On the other hand, Environmental factors positively affect the rehabilitation efficiency. Structural factors negatively affect the rehabilitation efficiency. Conclusion and the project¡¦s relevance to public health The community delivering-rehabilitation model has better rehabilitation effect, but on the aspect of efficiency, is not as good as general delivery model. However, the community delivering-rehabilitation model has good accessibility to patient. It also concerns patient safety. If the model can improve its efficiency, the promotion of health can be further implied in community delivering-rehabilitation model.

A Study on the Relationship between the Professional Leadership of Principal and the School Effectiveness in Primary School

Chen, Hsin-chun 28 May 2005 (has links)
A Study on the Relationship between the Professional Leadership of Principal and the School Effectiveness in Primary School Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the current status of professional leadership of primary school principal as well as analyze their impact on the school effectiveness. So that educational entity, primary school principals and teachers can enhance the school performance and effectiveness.First of all, based on theoretical literature and empirical research on related subjects, an assessment tool is developed:Questionnaire-¡§The relationships between professional leadership of principals and school effectiveness in primary school¡¨ and content validity is constructed by professionals. Pilot test is conducted at Stage 2 to construct the reliability and validity of questionnaire via statistical measurements such as item analysis and factor analysis. In the questionnaire, regarding the Item ¡§Leadership of principal¡¨, the overall Cronbach £\ value obtained is .9655, the total explained variances are 70.549%¡Fregarding the Item ¡§School Effectiveness¡¨, the overall Cronbach £\ value is .9584, the total explained variances are 70.549%. Then, formal test is proceeded on education staff members at Stage 3.Among a total of 705 copies of questionnaire being issued, 668 copies are collected, the usability is 94.8%.Descriptive statistics, variances analysis, product-moment correlation, Stepwise regression analysis are applied for statistics and analysis of assumptions proposed in this study. We come to the following conclusions based on the results of statistics and analysis: 1. The results of overall sampling has a positive recognition on the relationship of professional leadership of principal and effectiveness of school management. 2. The higher the professional leadership principal exerts, the higher the school effectiveness would be achieved. The effectiveness of school administration can be promoted and enhanced through the professional leadership of the principal in primary school. 3. Educators, who are aged and appointed principal, have a more positive viewpoint towards the ¡§Professional development¡¨ and ¡§Administrative leadership¡¨ of principal. 4. Educators, who are aged, graduated from graduate school and assumed the principal of a school sized from 25 to 48 classes, have a better recognition on the ¡§Learning performance¡¨ of school effectiveness. 5. There are close relationships between the professional leadership of principal and the school effectiveness, i.e. the better the principal exercises the professional leadership, the better the school effectiveness is. 6. The school effectiveness can be effectively predicted through the professional leadership of principal.Among them, the teaching leadership is most predicable. Based on the above conclusions, the writer would propose concrete recommendations on administrative entity of education, primary principal, school and follow-up researches to be referred as a basis to promote the school effectiveness.

The Study of Electromagnetic Shielding for Transceiver Module

Dai, Shwa-Gha 21 June 2002 (has links)
Abstract The Nylon and liquid crystal polymer(LCP) filled with conductive carbon fiber applied to 155Mbps and 1.25Gbps transceiver modules for electromagnetic(EM) shielding were studied. The measured results showed that the shielding effectiveness(SE) of 155Mbps and 1.25Gbps transceiver module were 13dB and 20dB to conform to FCC class B standard, respectively. This indicates that the plastic housing filled with conductive carbon fiber is suitable for EM shielding in plastic laser transceiver module applications.

The Study of Electromagnetic Shielding Efficient of cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal ingredient

Yen, Zih-huan 30 August 2008 (has links)
This research mainly focuses on the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of bamboo -charcoal, using cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal ingredient replacing parts of thin aggregates weight, and then finds the feasibility of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness by using bamboo-charcoal applied to cement mortar. Experiment contains two parts, one is to use different proportions of bamboo-charcoal with replacing with thin aggregates weights( 0%¡B3%¡B5% and 7% ),and the other is to use three kinds of thickness(3mm¡B4mm and 5mm), to measure the effectiveness of electrom- agnetic shielding, and to probe into whether cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal ingredient can shield electromagnetic or not. After researching on cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal, it can be used in civil engineering and ocean engineering, and this experiment will act on the premise which is not affecting the property of cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal, continuing using the condition of reference(Yu,2007) to probe into the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of cement mortar with bamboo-charcoal, expecting this material can be used to domestic architecture, for protecting the health of our home environment.
