Analise, sintese en beheer van stroomgevoede mutators met pulswydtemodulasie, as aktiewe filters in elektriese energienetwerkeVan Schoor, George 30 September 2014 (has links)
M.Ing. (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) / Three single phase current fed converters operating in pwm mode, are combined as an active power filter of 15 kVA. The undesired limit cycle shown by the system is eliminated by feedback loop compensation. Analog, computer and analytical models which predict remarkably similar system responses are used to investigate the technique. The analytical model involves describing function methods. The losses in the converters are modelled, and used as a feedback reference to allow losses in the system to be accurately covered from the supply. The system behaves as an accurate, fast active filter for distortion in power networks. Results illustrating this include the time and frequency response of the system for different reference currents. This is shown for the computer simulation as well as the practical system. Some more results include the response of the system to both a balanced and an unbalanced set of references in the three phases. The last results shown, illustrate the ability of the system to compensate a non-linear load.

Geintegreerde drywingsfilters vir mutatorsMarais, Solomon Josua 10 September 2012 (has links)
M.Ing. / Switch-mode power supplies are currently constructed by interconnecting various discrete components. There are certain drawbacks with the discrete interconnection method and as is the case with consumer electronics functional blocks of the converter must be constructed as a whole before improvements at various levels may be expected. The focus of this thesis is the functional integration of high power output filters for switchmode power supplies. Various capacitor technologies are discussed and investigated for applicability in integrated filters. The overall response of the prototype filters which has constructed are compared to that of equivalent conventional discrete filters. a General Modelling scheme is presented which is applicable to a wide range of structures and independent of excitation to facilitate improved design and prediction of the behaviour of the structures.

Tegnologie vir 'n geintegreerde gedeeltelik-serieresonante mutatorJanse van Rensburg, P. A. 07 September 2012 (has links)
M.Ing. / The aim of this study was to investigate integrated power electronics, and more specifically, the design and manufacture of integrated power electronic components. After evaluating and optimising the flame spray process as a manufacturing technology for integrated power electronics, it was decided to integrate the partial series resonant converter (PSRC) as a case study. Both an integrated and discrete PSRC was built after a thorough investigation of the design of parasitic inductances as resonant components. Finally, the integrated PSRC was evaluated by comparing it to the conventionally manufactured discrete PSRC. The evaluation results showed that the integrated PSRC compared favourably with the discrete PSRC, and also takes up a smaller packaging volume, mainly because of the planar shape of the integrated magnetic cores and windings. However, if efficiency is used as a measuring rod, it is clear that the technology of integrated power electronics cannot yet compete against the conventional technology of discrete power electronics, mainly because of materials as well as manufacturing problems. As soon as the manufacturing technologies and materials used for integrated power electronics become competitive with respect to conventional manufacturing technologies and materials used for discrete power electronics, integrated power electronics will become economically viable.
