The vulnerability they face family farmers has a direct relation to the size of the farms, very rugged topography and agricultural model adopted, which relies on annual crops very susceptible to climatic phenomena. This study aimed to analyze the tung (Eleurites fordii) as an alternative income and environmental protection for family farms. In the present study, we analyzed the economic viability of the culture with and without the use of technologies, intercropped with watermelon crop in the first five years, finally made a comparison of net income without considering the tung culture of participation watermelon, compared to a similar period with net income of corn. It was felt that the consultation period, while the corn for each unit invested returns only 0.48, in Tung returns for each unit invested 2.79. / As pequenas propriedades do Extremo Oeste Catarinense precisam buscar alternativas de renda e melhorias nas condições ambientais a que se encontram suas propriedades, sob pena de não ter sucessão familiar, haja visto o risco que a atividade representa associada a degradação ambiental a que se encontram, constituindo-se em um negócio com muitas incertezas. A vulnerabilidade a que estão submetidos os agricultores familiares tem uma relação direta com o tamanho das propriedades, o relevo bastante acidentado e o modelo agrícola adotado, que se sustenta em culturas anuais muito suscetíveis aos fenômenos climáticos. O presente estudo teve por objetivo, analisar o tungue (Eleurites fordii) como alternativa de renda e preservação ambiental para a agricultura familiar. No presente estudo, analisou-se a viabilidade econômica da cultura com e sem uso de tecnologias, consorciada com a cultura da melancia nos primeiros 5 anos, por fim, fez-se uma comparação do rendimento líquido do tungue sem considerar a participação da cultura da melancia, comparando-se por igual período com o rendimento líquido da cultura do milho. Percebeu-se que no período de analise, enquanto que no milho para cada unidade investida retorna apenas 0,48, no tungue para cada unidade investida retorna 2,79.
