Měření účinku L-karnitinu metodou ergospirometrie / Measurement of L-carnitine effect by ergospirometrie

Paimová, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
Measurement of effect of L-carnitine by ergospirometry Summary The intention is to determine the effect of L-carnitine on fatty acid metabolism. Values like volume of utilized oxygen, performance and respiratory quotient were chosen for evaluation. The study is a randomized and placebo-controlled. The testing was performed on a treadmill with gas sensing device Cortex Metalyzer 3B and sporttester Polar RS 400. The measurement was adjusted compared to the pre-set test program. The reason was detecting a change in fatty acid metabolism, which takes place under aerobic conditions and starts later. Participants were recreational and performance athletes. Paired t-test and percentage change were used for evaluation. There was no change in the volume of utilized oxygen, performance and respiratory quotient. This study does not match with the majority of similar trials, which indicate the reduction of the respiratory quotient, reduced lactate levels, markers of increased oxidation of fatty acids and the other markers of aerobic metabolism.

The reaction of anthropometric parameters, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiopulmonary exercise capacity in employees with metabolic syndrome within a company health care programme

Fleckenstein, Bettina January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
In 24 patients with a metabolic syndrome the effects of a three-month therapeutic lifestyle intervention in the form of a structured exercise programme and nutritional advice, which had to be continued independently for a further period of six months, were examined on anthropometric parameters, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiopulmonary exercise capacity. Each participant went through three study units, at the beginning of the study (T0), after the ending of the intervention programme (T1) and after the follow-up period (T2). Each study unit consisted of a physical examination, a blood tests with various laboratory parameters, a bodyplethysmography and an ergospirometry. There was found a significant reduction in body weight, BMI, waist circumference, WHR, fat and lean mass, systolic blood pressure and total cholesterol of the patients. Of all the recorded parameters of the bodyplethysmography only the expiratory reserve volume revealed a significant increase. The results of the ergospirometry indicated that the physical training of the participants led to a high long-term improvement of the exercise capacity parameters at low and medium training levels, while the increases of the parameters at maximum training levels were less marked.
