A partir da reflexão e análise teórico-conceitual acerca da obra cinematográfica The Wrestler (2008), foi possível construir o objeto de pesquisa e imergir no campo em busca de respostas. A partir disso, esse estudo problematiza aspectos relacionados aos processos de formação bioidentitária de um lutador de wrestling profissional e, em seguida, dá continuidade ao processo de interpretação dos resultados obtidos no campo ampliando o escopo de análises a partir da noção de cultura somática. Nesse sentido, a sequência do trabalho se desenvolve por meio de trabalho empírico, cujo processo metodológico teve como base diálogos e entrevistas semiestruturadas com cinco lutadores das modalidades MMA, boxe e jiu jítsu, com idades que variam entre 38 a 74. Outra estratégia foi retornar ao filme e, juntamente com dois dos participantes da pesquisa, dialogar sobre aspectos pertinentes ao estudo. Após esses procedimentos, foi possível articular os insights proporcionados pela obra cinematográfica com os dados realçados no/pelo campo. No processo de análise e discussão pontuamos alguns aspectos recorrentes nos estudos que se dedicaram a mapear os referenciais que participam da forja de lutadores na sociedade contemporânea e identificamos, tanto no filme quanto no campo, processos de formação bioidentitárias. No que se refere às análises do campo, sempre articuladas ao filme e ao referencial teórico, concluímos que os participantes em meio aos determinantes da moral do espetáculo desenvolvem maneiras alternativas ante aos desígnios bioidentitários correspondentes. Nesse sentido, reconhecidamente em processo de envelhecimento e afastamento das competições de alta performance, buscam garantir permanência na identidade escolhida.
