The effects of environmental elements on the color retention and durability of 65/35 polyester/cotton blend fabric with disperse-reactive dyes and durable press and soil release finishesEastlick, Mary Ann January 1975 (has links)
This investigation was designed to determine the effects of environmental elements on the color retention and durability of 65/35 polyester/cotton blend fabric with disperse-reactive dyes and durable press and soil release finishes. The colors of fabric used were intense shades of red, blue, and yellow. Data were collected from unlaundered and from laundered and line-dried fabric samples. Fabric samples were exposed to zero, approximately 1,349, 2,836, 5,551, and 11,627 langley units of solar radiation and to varying amounts of other environmental elements. The tear strength, weight, and color retention of the fabric were studied. As the number of langley units to which the fabric samples were exposed increased, the color retention of the fabric tendd to decrease. The combined effects of the other environmental elements appeared to be secondary to solar radiation in reducing the color retention of the fabric. There was also a decrease in the tear strength of the fabric. This appeared to be due to the combined effects of all of the environmental elements on the fabric. The tear strength, weight, and color retention were lower in the laundered fabric samples than in the unlaundered fabric samples.

The characteristics which determine the quality of a clothing product begin with the choice of raw materials, fibers, yarns and fabrics passing through the creation, development, apparel industry and finishing. The purpose of this work is to propose a proceeding for helping the development of textile products. Cotton yarns were chosen aiming at the production of comfortable goods and polyamide and polyester air textured yarns, which enable the production of goods with natural fiber look and hand. For each raw material, it was provided a 22 factorial design, aiming at identifying the control factors of the circular machine which influence the knitted fabrics. Using the linear programming, the optimization of the machine control parameters was done and knitted fabrics, with the same characteristics, were produced. The choice of the ideal raw material for the production of the goods has been done using the AHP ¿ Analytic Hierarchy Process / Doutorado / Mecanica dos Sólidos e Projeto Mecanico / Doutor em Engenharia Mecânica

Fire safety and interior textilesPerez, Virginia 17 March 2010 (has links)
The role of the interior designer in providing for fire safe interiors is an important one. The textile end-products they specify play an important part in the start and/or spread of interior fires. Furthermore, the rate of developments in textile testing and products makes it difficult for designers to keep abreast of the latest information. This thesis provides a program for updating interior designers on fire safe interior textiles. A one hour update program was developed as part of the thesis and delivered to members of the Southwest Regional Chapter of ASID in Roanoke, Virginia.
An analysis of data from a survey showed that participants believe there is a need for an educational program such as this course and that they would attend a five hour CEU course developed on this subject. Responses to questions on textile fibers, standard tests, and new products on the market supported the perceived need for continuing education on the subject of fire safe textiles. The course evaluation in turn, determined that some areas of the program needed to be revised. This thesis provides a packaged program which can be easily updated. Furthermore, anyone with a textile background can use this program in preparing and delivering a CEU course on fire safety and interior textiles. / Master of Science
