Proměna skutečnosti textem / The Transformation of Reality by Text

This thesis presents transformation as the key principle of production, as well as reception of a literary text. As far as production is concerned, the thesis takes off from the passing nature of any moment, any element of reality, and it perceives a literary text as a way to save and conserve that element. It is obvious that should the given element of the physical reality - perishable in its true character - survive in a text, it needs to undergo a change, a transformation: what needs to change in order for it to survive? By analyzing authors who discuss this nature of the text in their works, the thesis comes to understanding the production of a text as a discovery of such an environment within the text, which would allow the element of reality to be conserved. As far as reception is concerned, the thesis studies the influence a literary text has on our experience of reality. The problem is not only tackled as a perception of the world via a certain literary work, which was for example the case with the literary characters of Don Quixote or Madame Bovary, but the thesis tries to describe the deep transformation of our perception of reality caused by a poetic outlook on elements of the real world.

Narativní prostory lyriky / Narrative spaces of lyrical poetry

The work is a summary reflection on reading lyrical text and reader's understanding. It consists of two major topics - narratology and poetics of lyric poem - which are dissolved in the body of the work because of their meeting and direct confrontation. The third major circuit also dissolved in the body of work so that it can be functional for each complete part is poetry of Jiří Orten. Narratology now appears as a universal approach to the analysis of art (besides the literary text also film work, theater performances, paintings, etc., etc.). Poetics of lyric poetry is still adrift in a similar methodology. Considerations of this work are based on the assumption that narrative is one of the fundamental noetic structures of the human mind, and that storytelling is organizing principle of the human psyche. Based on this assumption the phenomenon of lyrical poem approaches to man as a kind of narratives that makes up a fictional world. Thoughts on the fictionality of poems, largely based on Doležel concept of fictional worlds is herein supported by Miroslav Červenka studie Fictional worlds of lyrical poetry. This dissertation deals with three selected French novels written by Milan Kundera: La lenteur, L´identité, L´ignorance. The aim is to make an analysis of these works, which are known as "the French cycle". We focus especially on the process of the construction of a narrative world (by using the semantics of fictional worlds and narratological concepts), as well as on the thematic level of these works. At the center of our dialogue with the novels is the question of whether they could create a real cycle, and what are the aspects that could connect them to each another. We also pay attention to the position of these works in the context of Kundera´s other writings.

It considers those novels as a landmark to the aesthetic choices that would follow the author along his work during the 20th century. This reading is supported by three points, which are the discourse of each narrator; the dialogue established between the novels and some other literary texts; and the position of these three novels in the context of Calvino’s works. The three singular characters who inhabit these worlds are a symmetrically divided viscount, who starts to live between oppositions, including his way of dealing with language; an young baron, who is on the top of the trees and who follows and participates in the destiny of mankind and even in the changes on literary issues at the end of the 18th century; and a knight who, though he is the best among French army paladins, is nothing beside an empty piece of armor, supported by a framework of rules and institutions that is related to the cavalry novels imaginary. Thus, these narratives propose to discuss the ancestors of contemporary men, by questioning the positivist and rationalist positions of the period known as modernity, moreover they are texts whose narrators see themselves as some singular fictional world components and they reflect about the narrative act itself. The diploma thesis Stereotypes of representation of the Protectorate period in Contemporary Film Creation focuses on the examination of stereotypical depictions of fictional worlds determined by a historical model in film production thematically situated in the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The subject of the research is mainly gender stereotypes of fictional characters and stereotyping of the fictional environment on the example of costumes, masks, period props, musical accompaniment and other elements of narration. The theoretical framework of the work is based primarily on the findings presented in the Introduction to the Semantics of Fictional Worlds by Bohumil Fořt and by Narrative Ways in Czech Literature by Lubomír Doležel. The knowledge of stereotyping theory is drawn from Nick Lacey's Image and Representation: Key Concepts in Media Studies and Pierre Sorlin's Europian Cinemas, Europian Societies 1939-1990. To obtain the necessary information about filmmaking, the publications of Radomír D. Kokeš, The Analysis of Film and David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson, The Art of Film: An Introduction to the Study of Form and Style, were used. This diploma thesis deals with the distinction between fiction and reality in the film using the theory of fictional worlds. It analyzes the effect of fictional worlds and their characters on the viewer's perception and interpretation of fiction. It emphasizes the difference of the impact of fiction on reality, depending on whether the recipient evaluates the fictional work by its relation to reality or realizes that the film doesn't refer to the actual world. The thesis describes the main concepts and problems of the theory of fictional worlds and applies them to the examples of films to show the importance of distinguishing the line between fiction and reality.

Výtvarno jako konstitutivní prvek fikčních světů / Art as an constitutive element of fictional worlds

The topic of this thesis is visual art as a constitutive element of fictional worlds. The methodological basis is comparative semiotics, or more precisely intermediality research. The aim is to capture some of the possible realisations of intermedial relationships between literature and visual art. The constituent case studies are focused on the ekphrasis represented in the novel Witch Hammer by Václav Kaplický, on the transmediality as a transfer of aesthetics of one medium into another on the example of Josef Čapek's Three Proses which are traditionally perceived as cubist, and on the illustrative relationship between text and picture in František Hrubín's lyrical poems The Night of Job. The first study concerning the ekphrastic relationship confirms the ability of visual art to enrich the possibilities of literary expression thematically but also semantically through introspection into the inner lives of the characters which contributed to the overall interpretation of the work. The second study focused on the transmedia transfer in Čapek's proses does not have such an unequivocal conclusion. Given the complexity of each reader's receptive process, it is difficult to attribute the status of a literary pandanus of Cubism to the Three Proses, even with an awareness of its historical context.
