Potential Clients' View of Language in TherapyHendrick, Stefani P. 21 May 2001 (has links)
This study compares the counselor credibility of therapists who use problem-focused with those who use solution-focused language. Participants from two undergraduate classes at a southeastern state university were assigned to one of two eight-minute videotapes of a role-played family therapy session: problem-focused or solution-focused. This study is a posttest only quasi-experimental design. One group (N=35) viewed a videotape of a session that used solution-focused language. Another group (N=38) viewed a videotape of a session that used problem-focused language. The same therapist conducted both sessions and the same actors were used as the client couple. After viewing the videotape, participants rated the therapist's credibility (as measured by the Counselor Rating Form - Short Version), completed a Demographic Questionnaire and answered three open-ended questions. Two research questions were examined in this study: (1) Do potential clients perceive a therapist using solution-focused language as more attractive, experienced, trustworthy, and more credible than the same therapist using problem-focused language? (2) What other variables affect potential clients' view of the therapist? No significant differences in counselor credibility were found between the two groups. Three categories were discovered in the analysis of the open-ended questions: therapist characteristics, actions/skills of therapist, and other. When asked what they liked the most about the therapist, the majority of the participants' (86 percent) responses fell into the category of actions and skills of the therapist. When asked what they liked the least about the therapist, the majority of the participants' (64 percent) responses fell into the category of therapist characteristics. / Master of Science

A Study of Gallium Nitride Light Emitting Diode Optical Output Power Enhancement Based on Focused Ion Beam TechnologyKuo, Kwei-Kuan 29 January 2008 (has links)
The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in microfabrication has become increasingly popular. Its use in microfabrication has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micromachining technologies, such as the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. With the surface modification of the LED/air interface, like microlens array, the light emitting at large angle can be extracted because the incident angle at the interface will be less than the critical angle without total internal reflection. A microlens feature has been fabricated on GaN LED top surface (p-GaN layer) and back side (sapphire substrate) by scanning a focused Ga ion beam. The lens shape can be modulated by using computer-controlled beam direct writing and dwell time during milling process. We have used this technique even to create a sophisticated lens surface of Fresnel microlens array which can't be created with the conventional etching methods. In addition, the resistivity of p-GaN layer is highly sensitive to the
process-induced damages during surface texturing, it is difficult to apply dry etching to p-GaN layer. Our method of using gas-assisted focused ion beam
etching (GAFIBE) can enhance the etching rate by the assistance of chemical reaction with minimized ion dose density to provide nearly damage-free etching by varying the beam current, pixel dwell time and refresh time. Our study emphasis on direct milling and maskless techniques which can distinguish the FIB technology from the contemporary photolithography process and provide a vital alternative to it.

TPM Maintenance Management Model Focused on Reliability that Enables the Increase of the Availability of Heavy Equipment in the Construction SectorPalomino-Valles, A., Tokumori-Wong, M., Castro-Rangel, P., Raymundo-Ibañez, C., Dominguez, F. 06 April 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to present a maintenance study focused on total productive maintenance (TPM) and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM). Its approach is based on the first pillars of TPM, preventive and autonomous maintenance, as well as the FMEA analysis of RCM for maintenance analysis, which was conducted in this study. The implementation of TPM was successful in that various preventive maintenance (PM) policies assigned to the assets were implemented and it was demonstrated that TPM application in the construction industry could reduce the excessive accumulation of maintenance with the same effective optimization, and with support from RCM analysis and its heavy equipment systems analysis. Excessive corrective maintenance accounts for high investment and delay rates in work times of the assigned project. Traditional methods of availability guarantee, such as reactive or routine maintenance, are insufficient to satisfy a heavy equipment maintenance plan; therefore, what is called for is the systematic application of RCM and TMP because they allow the selection and application of effective PM tasks. An approach that develops and thoroughly analyzes the strategies of continuous corrective and PM is used with an atmosphere of uncertainty and with operational data limited by criticism. Results show a 90% improvement in availability. / Revisión por pares

An exploration of Compassion Focused Imagery (CFI) in women with sub-clinical eating disorder symptomsTsivos, Zoe-Lydia January 2015 (has links)
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is an emerging transdiagnostic treatment which aims to attenuate common psychological problems including shame and self-criticism through building compassionate skills. These problems are considered relevant and implicated in the maintenance of eating disorders. Imagery in particular has attracted attention as an important treatment technique for its strong links with memory. The aim of this thesis was to explore the effect of Compassion Focused Imagery (CFI) in women with sub-clinical eating disorder symptoms. Paper 1 is a systematic review of the CFT literature across disorders and in transdiagnostic groups. The main aims of the review were to evaluate the literature, synthesise the content of CFT across studies and provide preliminary effect size calculations. Eighteen articles were identified including clinical and non-clinical, treatment and experimental studies. The current body of evidence includes transdiagnostic samples, eating disorders, psychosis, acquired brain injury, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorder, individuals high in self-criticism and those with acne. The review includes a synthesis of intervention content, modalities, training and supervision of CFT within the literature. Strongest evidence was identified within transdiagnostic groups with more limited evidence for CFT within PTSD, personality disorders, acne sufferers and high self-critics. Effect sizes varied from 0-0.9 across shame, self-criticism and self-compassion outcomes. The area is limited by few controlled evaluations and heterogeneous content of interventions. Paper 2 is an experimental study of the effect on CFI in an analogue (sub-clinical) sample of women with elevated levels of eating disorder symptoms. Following baseline assessments measuring shame, self-criticism, self-compassion and stress, anxiety and depression, women with global scores of 2.5 or over on the Eating Disorders Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) were randomly allocated to either CFI condition in which they were instructed to create an image of a compassionate other or to a neutral imagery condition which involved creating an image of a neutral object. A third group of individuals with global scores of 1.0 or less on the EDE-Q were recruited for comparison only. Following a practice period of five-to-seven days, participants were assessed a final time. Controlling for baseline scores, significantly greater reductions in shame were reported in the CFI group compared with the neutral imagery group. Increases in self-compassion and decreases in self-criticism and depression, anxiety and stress were favourable in the CFI group compared with those in the neutral imagery group; however, these findings did not reach statistical significance. Compassion focused imagery appeared to be well tolerated within the CFI group. Clinical and theoretical implications and future research directions are discussed. The third chapter offers a reflective discussion on the methodological strengths and weaknesses, clinical and theoretical implications beginning with the systematic review followed by the empirical paper. Chapter 3 concludes with a final section on personal and professional reflections throughout the research process.

Process and analysis of nano wire in InGaAs/AlInAs by focused ion beamYu, Chien-Pang 19 July 2006 (has links)
On InGaAs/AlInAs heterostructures we made nanowires which were made by focus ion beam (FIB) and the width of nanowires making by FIB were 40nm¡B70nm¡B100nm and 200nm respectively. we studied electronic characterization of nanowires using Shubnikov-de Haas(SdH).In our research,by using SdH method there are no signal in our sample which processed by FIB,then we changed to process technology in our sample. For example: Increase thickness of the protection layer, size of change channel, etc.
