Linearly-Annulated, Functionalized, β,β'-π-Extended PorphyrinsMoss, Austen Edmond 12 1900 (has links)
Benzannulation to porphyrin 2,3 positions has previously been accomplished using various methodologies in the past century, yet there remain limited methodologies to both annulate to the porphyrin periphery and add functional moieties that can then be derivatized for diverse applications. This dissertation describes the development of synthetic routes and characterization of a variety of linearly-annulated, functionalized, β,β'-π-extended porphyrins. There are five chapters in this dissertation, the first of which introduces synthesis and properties of porphyrins and π-extended porphyrins. Chapter 2 describes synthesis of pentacenequinone-fused and pentacene-fused poprhyrins with distinct and new optical absorbance properties. In chapter 3, synthesis and characterization of benzimidazole-fused porphyrins displaying external metal binding capability is described. The synthetic method developed in chapter 3 is extended in chapter 4 to synthesis of bisbenzimidazole-fused porphyrin dimers that show split Soret character, likely due to excitonic coupling between porphyrins of the dimer. Chapter 5 summarizes this dissertation and describes future directions that this dissertation provides foundation for.

The Dropping Gallium Electrode in Fused SaltsDickie, D. Kent 01 1900 (has links)
This paper is an attempt to appraise the usefulness of the dropping gallium electrode (DGE) in fused LiNO3-KNO3, to compare it with the dropping mercury electrode (DME), and to study the DGE in fused LiCl-KCl.

Curved-layer fused deposition modellingSingamneni, S., Diegel, O., Huang, B., Gibson, I., Chowdhury, R. January 2010 (has links)
Published Article / Current fused deposition modelling (FDM) technologies deposit material as flat layers. The result is a "stair-case" effect on non-vertical or horizontal surfaces, and compromised part strength because of weakness between the laminations. This paper describes an FDM method through which layers of build material are deposited as curved layers following the shape of the part, thus removing the stair-case effect and creating parts that have an even strength distribution over their entire surface. Support material is first deposited as conventional flat layers, and build material is then deposited over the support structure following the curves of the part. The paper discusses a proof of concept of the system, the algorithms used to generate the curve paths for the deposition head, and examines the challenges and possibilities of this technology, including the capability of including composite materials.

GNSS and Inertial Fused Navigation Filter SimulationRogers, Jonas Paul 23 January 2018 (has links)
A navigation filter simulation and analysis environment was developed through the integration of DRAGON, a high fidelity real-time PNT sensor measurement source, and Scorpion, a modular navigation filter implementation framework. The envi- ronment allows navigation filters to be prototyped and tested in varying complex scenarios with a configurable set of navigation sensors including GNSS and IMU. An analysis of an EKF using the environment showed the utility and functionality of the system.
