Morales Undurraga, Camila José 05 1900 (has links)
RESUMEN / Considering the energy grid of Chile, the combustion of biomass is especially relevant in the southern part of the country, specifically between the Regions of O'Higgins and Aysen, where 74% of households use this source of energy for cooking and heating. However, the combustion of firewood with high levels of humidity together with inefficient heating appliances, have led to high levels of atmospheric pollution due to the unregulated use of this resource. According to these problems, the present thesis work consists of transforming common harmful products of combustion, such as NO and CO into inert compounds. For this purpose, the synthesis and further study of a solid catalyst based on copper and potassium supported on particles of CeO2/TiO2-SiO2 is here proposed. This catalyst was impregnated onto a cordierite ceramic monolith using a washcoat method or wet impregnation. Additionally, in order to understand the physicochemical phenomena on the surface of the catalyst under reaction conditions, they were characterized through physical and spectroscopic techniques, among which TPR, XRD, BET area, Raman, DRIFTS, and SEM were included. The catalytic activity results under controlled conditions showed that the K/Cu/CeO2/(5)TiO2-SiO2 catalyst, previously reduced with H2/Ar at 500 oC, presents a high activity on the reduction of NO with CO. For bed-packed catalysts, a 100% conversion of CO and 92% conversion of NO, where achieved, whereas the impregnated monoliths gave 95% and 77% conversion of CO and NO, respectively. ABSTRACT
