. / The objective of this work is to determine the prevalence of macroscopic and microscopic gastric lesions in dogs, classify it and correlate it to the presence of helicobacter and the serum levels of gastrin. It was used 50 (fifty) dogs from the central kennel of the Botucatu Campus, which underwent physical examination and laboratorial analysis (hematology, urinalysis and biochemistry panel), to determine their health status. These animals were submitted to gastroscopic examination for gross evaluation of the gastric wall and for the harvest of samples of mucous membrane through stomach biopsy, which was designated to microbiologic culture, urease test, and histological analysis. The histological examination evaluated the tissue architecture and the presence of helicobacter through the hematoxiline/eosine staining technique and Giemsa staining technique was used to confirm the presence of infection. The prevalence of helicobacter, identified through the association of the histological analysis and the urease test, was of 96 %, and the cellular culture was inconclusive. The macroscopic alterations of the stomach wall were significant (58%). It was not observed changes in the epithelium of the mucous membrane, although the presence of inflammatory cellular infiltrate... (Complete abstract, click electronic address below).
