The uneven geographies of family migration and family structures in Great BritainRostance, Craig January 2009 (has links)
This thesis performs a review of both geographical and social literature to examine the uneven geographies of family migration in Great Britain (GB). Using 2001 GB Census data, the thesis explores the inter-connections between diverse patterns of migration, family structures, and other demographic characteristics via the construction of a Migrant family Index (MFI). Four types of ‘migrant-family locations’ are identified at the Local Authority District (LAD) level; ‘conventional’, ‘increasing onventionality’, ‘increasing non-conventionality’, and ‘non-conventional’. These ‘migrant-family locations’ are underpinned by specific processes of family migration, and the reproduction and/or transformation of dominant place-specific conventional and non-conventional family structures. This distinction is consolidated by empirical findings from a large-scale survey of 400 recent migrant households in four case study locations in South-east England; Wealden, Crawley, Lewes, and Brighton. Recent migrants were identified in a novel way using a web-based register of recent residential property transactions.

The complexities of family migration in Old Town HastingsTruder, Jenna January 2010 (has links)
This thesis advances the conceptual understanding of contemporary expressions of family migration, drawing upon the case study of Old Town, Hastings, in the South East of England. Based on rich, empirical findings from semi-structured interviews, content analyses of media sources, and household surveys, it is shown that flows of family migrants into Old Town are re-focusing attention on previously under-stated motives for migration. Furthermore, it is contended that findings signal the growing importance of emerging appeals, such as more family-friendly employment practices, enhanced qualities-of-life, and alternative lifestyles ‘by the sea’. It is argued that the findings disrupt conventional conceptualisations of family migration, and illuminate more complex and complicated forms of mobility.

«ΓΕΩ» εκπαιδευτικό λογισμικό για τη γεωγραφία της Ευρώπης. Τεχνολογική προσέγγιση / “GEO” educational software for the geography of Europe. Technological approachΣκουληκάρης, Δημήτρης 17 May 2007 (has links)
In this project, the educational software “GEO” was developed for supporting the Geography lesson in primary and secondary school education. The “GEO” design principles, the model of development used and its documentation are cited within the treatise. The designing of “GEO”, the means used, the hypermedia and multimedia applications developed; e.g. sounds, maps, the active maps and flags that link to other regions, are all systematically presented and described. Furthermore, the programming codes developed, the computer languages and applications used, the expert system created for students’ evaluation are described, following by a more detailed description of the scripts that are given to the educator, as well as of the available navigations for both the educator and the students.

The Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius : quest for truth, quest for theology, quest for unity : an exploration of Eastern Orthodox and Anglican ecumenical theological and ecclesiological relations from 1927 until 2012Salapatas, Dimitrios Filippos January 2016 (has links)
This thesis aims to examine the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius, an ecumenical body that promotes relations between various Christian denominations. Despite being founded on the grounds to promote relations and dialogue between the Anglicans and the Orthodox, it has widened this scope, introducing new churches in its life, conferences, publications and history. In the first and second chapters of this thesis the first eighty five years (1927-2012) of its history are explored, identifying the Society’s strengths and weaknesses in achieving its objectives, whilst studying its theological approaches to the reunion work, understanding that this body has been a progressive fellowship, theologically and ecclesiastically. The third chapter investigates the life and the theological, philosophical and historical views of Nicolas Zernov, who had as a life goal to foster relations between the churches, whilst also promoting Orthodox and Russian topics to a Western audience. The final chapter examines two themes by two important members of the Fellowship, Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia’s ideas on deaconesses and women priests and former Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams’ views on icons. These two topics are interesting and current for the continuation of the relations between the Orthodox Church and the Anglican Communion, trying to further understand each other in order to eventually achieve what many in the Fellowship profess and what the Bible promotes, ‘that they all may be one’ (John 17:21). The conclusion of the thesis assesses the work of the Fellowship, whilst also looking into the post 2012 objectives and achievements of the Fellowship and the future goals of the Society. Therefore, this paper is a quest for truth, a quest for theology and a quest for unity.
