Conversely, state industries manufacture only low added value red ceramics. Porcelainized stoneware tiles is one of the noblest ceramics, depicting low water absorption (typically below of 0,5%), in addition to excellent staining resistance and mechanical strength. The present work aims at investigating the potential of local raw materials for the production of porcelainized stoneware tiles. To that end, these materials were characterized by X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, particle size analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis and thermal differential analysis. Admixtures containing different compositions were prepared and fired at three temperatures, 1150, 1200 and 1250?C for 30 min. After firing, tests samples were characterized by water absorption tests, linear retraction, dilatometric analysis, apparent porosity, apparent specific mass, flexural strength, and microstructural analysis by XRD and SEM. The results revealed that ceramics with porcelainized stoneware tiles characteristics could be produced from raw materials originated in the State of Rio Grande do Norte / O Rio Grande do Norte possui grandes jazidas de pegmatitos, argilas caulin?ticas e caulim, principais mat?rias-primas para a fabrica??o de gr?s porcelanato. No entanto, o RN produz apenas produtos de baixo valor agregado em rela??o ao porcelanato, uma das mais nobres cer?micas de revestimento, devido a sua baixa absor??o d??gua (tipicamente abaixo de 0,5%), al?m de apresentar excelentes caracter?sticas t?cnicas, destacando-se elevada resist?ncia mec?nica, ao risco e ao manchamento. O presente trabalho tem a finalidade de validar o potencial de mat?rias-primas do RN (feldspato, argila, caulim e talco beneficiado) para a produ??o de gr?s porcelanato. As empresas de minera??o que atuam na extra??o e beneficiamento dos quartzitos geram grandes volumes de res?duos, constituindo cerca de 90% de SiO2 na sua composi??o qu?mica proveniente do quartzo, que ? um dos constituintes b?sicos nas formula??es das massas cer?micas para a produ??o de revestimento cer?micos. Para tanto, este trabalho avalia o estudo da adi??o de res?duos de quartzito para obten??o do gr?s porcelanato atrav?s da caracteriza??o das mat?rias-primas por FRX, DRX, MEV, AG, ATG e DSC, utilizando cinco formula??es contendo 57% de feldspato, 37% de argila e 6% de res?duos de quartzitos com colora??es diferentes (branco, dourado, rosa, verde e preto), que foram sinterizadas em tr?s temperaturas: 1150?C, 1200?C e 1250?C, com isoterma de 1 hora e taxa de aquecimento de 10? C/min. Ap?s a sinteriza??o, os corpos-de-prova foram submetidos a ensaios de caracteriza??o f?sica como: absor??o de ?gua, retra??o linear, porosidade aparente, massa espec?fica aparente, resist?ncia ? flex?o em tr?s pontos. Os resultados obtidos apontavam para a possibilidade da utiliza??o do res?duo de quartzito em um percentual de 6% de adi??o na massa cer?mica. A utiliza??o de res?duos de quartzito em massa cer?mica proporcionou um produto final com propriedades tecnol?gicas que atendem ?s normas t?cnicas para a produ??o de gr?s porcelanato, sendo a temperatura de 1200?Ca que apresentou melhores resultados. De acordo com os resultados obtidos verificou-se um alto teor de ?xido de ferro no quartzito preto, sendo descartada a utiliza??o do mesmo em gr?s porcelanato por quest?o estrutural, pois o material fundiu a 1250?C. Todas as formula??es dos quartzitos obtiveram baixa absor??o de ?gua quando sinterizadas a 1200?C, obtendo AA entre 0,1% a 0,36% sem terem passado pelo processo de atomiza??o. Nos ensaios de resist?ncia ? flex?o todos os quartzitos encontram-se nos limites de aceita??o, segundo a norma europeia EN 100, superando 27 MPa na sinteriza??o a 1200?C. Com isso, o uso de res?duo de quartzito em massas cer?micas se apresenta como excelente potencial para a produ??o de gr?s porcelanato. / In States of Para?ba (PB) and Rio Grande do Norte (RN), northeast of Brazil, the most significant deposits of non-metallic industrial minerals are pegmatites, quartzites and granites, which are located in Serid? region. Extraction of clay, quartz, micas and feldspars occurs mainly in the cities of V?rzea (PB), OuroBranco (RN) and Parelhas (RN). Mining companies working in the extraction and processing of quartzite generate large volumes of waste containing about 90% SiO2 in their chemical composition coming from quartz that is one of the basic constituents of ceramic mass for the production of ceramic coating. Therefore, this work evaluates the utilization of these wastes on fabrication of high-quality ceramic products, such as porcelain stoneware, in industrial scale. Characterization of raw materials was based on XRF, XRD, GA, TGA and DSC analysis, on samples composed by 57% of feldspar, 37% of argil and 6% of quartzite residues, with 5 different colors (white, gold, pink, green and black). Samples were synthesized in three temperatures, 1150?C, 1200?C and 1250?C, with one hour isotherm and warming-up tax of 10?C/min. After synthesizing, the specimens were submit to physical characterization tests of water absorption, linear shrinkage, apparently porosity, density, flexural strain at three points. The addition of 6% of quartzite residue to ceramic mass provided a final product with technological properties attending technical norms for the production of porcelain stoneware; best results were observed at a temperature of 1200?C. According to the results there was a high iron oxide on black quartzite, being their use in porcelain stoneware discarded by ethic and structural question, because the material fused at 1250?C. All quartzite formulations had low water absorption when synthesized at 1200?C, getting 0.1% to 0.36% without having gone through the atomization process. Besides, flexural strain tests overcame 27 MPa reaching the acceptance limits of the European Directive EN 100, at 1200?C synthesizing. Thus, the use of quartzite residues in ceramic masses poses as great potential for the production of porcelain stoneware.

Brazil is one of the largest producers of blocks or finished products of ornamental rocks, extracting about 5.2 tons / year. The largest national producers are the states of Esp?rito Santo, Minas Gerais and Bahia which account for 80% of the Brazilian production. However, the waste total amount during processing of these blocks reaches 40% of the total. The use of the waste produced by this industry in white ceramics could be a form of disposition, because these materials, are thrownasa mud directly at decantation ponds, wastelands or in rivers, without any treatment. The present work has as main purpose to study the influence that reject of the ornamental rocks on the physical and mechanical properties of white ceramics. X-Ray characterizations of raw materials by were performed X-Ray fluorescence, X-Ray diffraction, granulometric, thermogravimetric and thermodiferencial analysis, five formulations were made (0, 10, 20, 30, 40% in granite weight) wich were burned at three temperatures: 1100?C, 1150?C and 1200?C with 60 minutes of sorling time. After sintering, the samples were submitted to different analyser absorption of water, linear retraction, apparent porosity, apparent specific mass, flexival stronght, and scanning were obtained microscopy. Compatible technological properties within the limits demanded for the production of porcelainized stoneware / Os rejeitos de granito s?o provenientes do processo de minera??o dessas rochas ornamentais para uso na ind?stria da constru??o civil. O Brasil ? um dos maiores produtores de blocos ou produtos acabados de rochas ornamentais, extraindo cerca de 5,2 milh?es toneladas/ano. Os maiores produtores nacionais s?o os estados do Esp?rito Santo, Minas Gerais e Bahia que respondem por 80% da produ??o nacional. Municipalities of Parelhas and Equador are the main responsible for the production of feldspar, quartz, kaolin and granite. The ceramic industries are always in search of competitiveness by investing in new products or improving existing techniques. The stoneware is a type of pottery that stands in the market because it presents technical and aesthetic characteristics superior to other existing products. Characteristics of the raw materials initially obtained with chemical analysis and mineralogical analysis are crucial in getting a product that satisfies the conditions in a manufacturing process and is, in principle, directly related to the firing cycle. This research aimed at developing new formulations for the mass production of ceramic stoneware. The raw materials initially characterized were feldspar, quartz, kaolin and granite. As part of the research was developed at the University of Aveiro, in Portugal, we used two clays used in the production of Portuguese ceramics. The raw material Brazilian and Portuguese and the final product, both in Portugal and Brazil, were analyzed for X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, granulometric analysis, dilatometric analysis, thermal analysis and analysis of scanning electron microscopy (MEV). The specimens prepared at the University of Aveiro (DECV) were sintered at 10000C and 12000C and the specimens prepared in UFRN were sintered at 10000C, 10500C, 11000C, 11500C, 12000C, 12500C and 13000C, but the best results and demonstrating the presence of the mineral mullite were at temperatures of 12000C, 12500C and 13000C. The results showed that the granite waste used may be considered raw material of excellent quality for use in the ceramic industry and coating floors and more accurately by the industry of stoneware. Physical and mechanical tests conducted on samples of the formulations F01 and F02 developed in UFRN showed a water absorption and mechanical strength suitable for the stoneware / No estado do Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil, as jazidas mais expressivas na produ??o de minerais de pegmatito e granito est?o na regi?o do Serid?. Porcelainized stoneware tiles is one of the noblest ceramics, depicting low water absorption (typically below of 0,5%), in addition to excellent staining resistance and mechanical strength. The present work aims at investigating the potential of local raw materials for the production of porcelainized stoneware tiles. The local industries manufacture over 50 million shingles a month, corresponding to 60% of their overall production. As a result of processing flaws, roughly 20% of the production must be discarded, since little or no use has been envisaged for such fired components. Therefore, the use of this kind of residue, especially in the composition of other ceramic materials, comes as an interesting option from the economical and environmental point of view. In this scenario, the objective of the present study was to assess the effect of the addition of fired shingle waste in the composition of porcelainized stoneware tiles. To that end, two porcelainized stoneware tiles compositions were initially prepared. Subsequently, contents from 10 to 30% of roofing tiles chamote were added to each one of them. All raw materials and grog were characterized by FRX, XRD, and thermal analysis. The ceramics were fired using natural gas for 30 min at different temperatures, i.e. 1150, 1200 and 1250?C, and fully characterized. The addition of roofing tiles chamote resulted in composition with superior properties compared to additive-free compositions. Porcelainized stoneware tiles products that fulfill required standards for practical applications were achieved / A ind?stria de cer?mica vermelha ? um dos segmentos de maior import?ncia na economia do Rio Grande do Norte. Nesse setor, o material mais produzido ? a telha, ocupando mais de 60% de todos os artefatos produzidos, com mais de 50 milh?es de pe?as fabricadas por m?s. Sabe-se que devido ? falhas no processamento, o teor de res?duos desse material no RN, pode chegar a um valor de at? 20%, o que significa mais de 10 milh?es de telhas indo diretamente para aterros, visto que estas, depois de queimadas, n?o podem ser reutilizadas no processo de fabrica??o. Desta forma, o uso desse rejeito na produ??o de cer?micas com alto valor agregado, como ? o caso do gr?s porcelanato, se torna uma op??o vi?vel. Do ponto de vista econ?mico essa viabilidade se d?, pelo fato de utilizar-se um rejeito como parte da formula??o. Do ponto de vista ambiental, a viabilidade est? em reduzir o ac?mulo desses rejeitos nos aterros sanit?rios. Desta forma, o presente trabalho tem o objetivo de estudar a influ?ncia da adi??o de descarte de telhas em formula??es de gr?s porcelanatos. Para isso, utilizou-se duas formula??es, adicionando concentra??es de 10, 20 e 30% de chamote para cada uma delas. O Chamote e as mat?rias-primas foram caracterizadas por FRX, DRX, TG, ATD e AG. As queimas foram realizadas em forno a g?s natural com tr?s temperaturas, por 30 minutos de patamar: 1150, 1200 e 1250?C.
