However, it is verified deficiencies of the hydrogeologic studies. The existing knowledge about aquifers, wells and its zones of protection is not still satisfactory to subsidize the efficient management of groundwater. Furthermore, it is verified the absence of specific national legislation, being present rules only in some states. The delimitation of zones of protection of wells is important to protect the systems of water supplying. The delimitation is one of the most efficient ways to protect the groundwater restricting the use of surrounding lands. In this work, the delimitation of the protection perimeters and the specific restriction zones of 30 wells used for public water supply in the urban zone of the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, is done. The specific portuguese legislation was used as legal and theoretical reference. The perimeters had been delimited using a methodology of analytical base called method Calculated Fixed Ray, this, cited in the portuguese legislation. For better presentation of the results, a GIS (Geographic Information System) was elaborated including all the characteristics of the wells, as well as the established zones of protection. / As sucessivas secas ocorrentes na região Nordeste, inclusive atingindo a região litorânea e os seus sistemas de abastecimento de água, têm provocado aumento significativo do uso de águas subterrâneas captadas através de poços. Entretanto, verifica-se a deficiência de estudos hidrogeológicos, uma vez que o conhecimento sobre os aqüíferos, os poços existentes e suas zonas de proteção não são ainda satisfatórios para subsidiar a gestão eficiente das águas subterrâneas. Ademais, verifica-se a ausência de legislação específica nacional, existindo normas apenas em alguns estados. A delimitação de zonas de proteção de poços se faz importante para ressalvar os sistemas de abastecimento d' água. Trata-se de uma das formas mais eficazes de proteger a captação de água subterrânea restringindo o uso dos terrenos circunvizinhos. Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal realizar a delimitação de perímetros de proteção dos aqüíferos contribuintes, especificando diferentes zonas de restrição para 30 poços utilizados para abastecimento público na zona urbana do município de João Pessoa, Paraíba. Utilizou-se como referencial teórico e legal a legislação portuguesa expressa no Decreto-Lei Nº. 282/99. Os perímetros foram delimitados utilizando uma metodologia de base analítica denominada Raio Fixo Calculado, citada na referida legislação. Para melhor apresentação dos resultados, foi elaborado um SIG (Sistema de Informações Geográficas) contendo todas as características dos poços em estudo, bem como as zonas de proteção estabelecidas.
