The building parameters evaluated were: glass types and exterior colors used to cover external and internal walls. The analysis was performed using EnergyPlus, thermo-energetic simulation program, and evaluated with a method developed to determine the efficiency of the building alternatives. The evaluation was performed based on the building of the Bruno Born Hospital, in Lajeado, Rio Grande do Sul. The main objective is to minimize the electrical energy consumption of the air-conditioning system and at the same time fulfill the comfort and sterilization requirements of the thirteen hospitalization rooms of the hospital, according to temperature indexes specified in NBR-6401. With the purpose of assessing the thermal environmental conditions and energy consumption, thermal comfort indexes, internal temperature and the necessary air-conditioning power for each of the hospitalization room were evaluated. The energy consumption of the used alternatives and the cost benefit ration were assessed. Through simulation, the results showed that with the use of thermal efficient materials, temperature exchanges between internal and external areas are minimized, lowering energy consumption of the air-conditioning system.
