Through the S-matriz unitarity the elastic and inelastic states in hadron-hadron scattering are distinguished. This leads to the definition of the inelastic overlap function in terms of the profile (eikonal) function, which is associated with physical observables of the elastic channel. Two geometrical (impact parameter) approaches for the study of hadronic (pp and pp) multiplicities distribuitions are investigated, referred as Finkelstein and Valin and St. Hilaire approaches, and both use the inelastic overlap function as input. In this study it is considered the predictions for this function from three phenomenological models for the elastic channel ( dispersive diffraction, multiple diffraction and geometrical models) and it is performed a comparative analysis envolving the two approaches, the three models and the physical observables of the inelastic channel. It is shown that for all the three elastic channel models the approach by Finkelstein does not reproduce the hadronic multiplicity distributions at the highest energies. On the other hand, starting from the original approach by Valin and St. Hilaire, new connections between hadronic and elementary multiplicities are established. The elementary distributions are inferred through parametrizations of the most recent experimental information on e+e- annihilation. With this novel formalism an excellent description of the inelastic hadronic multiplicities distributions is acchieved, without free parameters / Doutorado / Física / Doutor em Ciências
