UPnP standard extension for the integration of home automation systems.

Guilherme Mussi Toschi 01 April 2016 (has links)
This work discuss the compatibility an integration between systems and devices for home automation, proposing ways to improve it. This integration tends to become a complex task due to the wide variety of integration standards and technologies adopted in home automation. This paper proposes an extension of the standard Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and the use of a modular architecture with two layers in order to adapt it to the integration of home automation subsystems. This extended standard is then used in the upper layer for the control and integration of the subsystems. In the bottom layer, each subsystem uses the most appropriate communication technology to control their devices, it has an UPnP interface to communicate with other subsystems and allow user control. Thus subsystems become modules of the home automation system. This proposal allows the user to easily purchase and replace subsystems from different manufacturers, in order to integrate them transparently, resulting in a flexible home automation system and independent of manufacturer. To test the proposed extension, a use case of an illumination subsystem was created and software simulations were carried out. The simulation results were presented and analyzed, verifying the compliance with the system requirements and whether the desired characteristics have been achieved, such as the subsystem plug and play feature, the modularity and flexibility enhancement of the system, to facilitate the purchase and maintenance of the home automation system, generating the potential to foster greater adoption of home automation systems. However, the proposed extension also results in increased complexity of the UPnP client that uses it to interact with the system, which can hinder the adoption of home automation systems in the future. Finally, future suggestions and perspectives were presented.

Home Automation Using Elvin

Malm, Anders, Mjörning, Fredrik January 2005 (has links)

Home automation systems of today tend to be external solutions to an existing product that enable rather complex and expensive communications equipment to be attached to existing products. This is because it would not be economically defendable to implement the communications hardware internally in the products, due to a high increase of the cost for the product. This thesis tries to solve this problem by introducing a low-cost product-embedded solution for home automation. By using the Elvin protocol together with low-cost communication solutions, such as the RS232 protocol and Open/Closed circuits, communications could be embedded into products and device interaction could be implemented without increasing the cost of already existing products too much. Furthermore this thesis will discuss an implementation of an Elvin router that will act as a bridge between RS232, Open/Closed circuits and the Ethernet network that contains an Elvin server.

Proof of concept : home automation solution with potential for seamless integration and vast expansion

Sawyer, Guy 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MEng) -- Stellenbosch University, 2014. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The ever-increasing existence of electronic systems and devices within the residential environment, along with the human desire to simplify life and daily routine, is generating increased interest in the field of home automation (HA) and intelligent environments. A large variety of home automation solutions have been conceptualised or developed. However, many of these solutions are designed by experts and require professionals to install and/or operate them. Furthermore they lack the potential for seamless integration into an already functioning home environment. To bridge the gap between consumer and expert as well as allowing for integration into any existing home environment without physical alteration to the building, a modular home automation solution with seamless integration potential is proposed. The implemented system uses open source software and hardware allowing for development to continue within the existing, large open source community. It can be installed and configured without professional skills or physical alteration of the environment itself and due to its modular design, the system also allows users to add and remove functional components to and from the system providing them with a seamlessly customisable home automation solution. Conceptual design and practical implementations are covered in this document, along with recommendations for both continued research and potential avenues for expansion.

Modélisation de l'interopérabilité d'objets communicants et de leur coopération : application à la domotique / Modeling of interoperability of communicating object their cooperation : implementation to home automation

Sartor, Fabien 05 July 2012 (has links)
In the context of the building developments, it is increasing necessary to interconnect communicating objects. This approach is slow down because of the lack of a standard communication protocol. The smart home is not a new concept, and home automation has become a fashion research topic in recent years. The problem of this thesis focuses on the interoperability of communicating systems. Specifically, we focus on how to establish cooperation between different devices of an environment in order to hide the complexity to a user. Initially, interoperability between these objects is achieved by the establishment of a virtual ecosystem where devices can communicate their states or the state of the environment. It is the abstraction of systems. In this paper, we discuss how and why systems are necessarily abstract when we are interested in taking into consideration the context of the installation. The study of consideration of context allowed to provide scientific data to the company Overkiz in order to realize abstraction of home automation devices. Second, cooperation among communicating objects is implemented by a mathematical tool to model the behavior of an environment cibsustubg of actuators, sensors and user interfaces. The behavior is formalized using the automata theory and more specificaly the automaton theory of Input/Output Symbolic Transition Systems (IOSTS). We synthesize then how to synthetise a "controller" of a global behavior of an installation, from constraint rules or rules of action.

VOLF, Jiří January 2013 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to explain and introduce the indiviudal components and control proceedings in the systems of automatic control of intelligent houses. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part I deal with the general description and structure of the house automatic systems, their availability and application in wiring practise. The second part is focused on the proceedings used in RC5 infra-red area and the most used X10 PowerLine protocol and its processing by AVR microprocessors. The third part is concentrated on the practical construction of a module with a microprocessor enabling the development and education of user applications for the substance of the automation system and that extend it in other possibilities of communication such as ethernet and WiFi networks, eventually GSM mobile network.
