A formative student evaluation of the general perception among students of the Master's degree in Technology: Homoeopathy

10 March 2010 (has links)
M.Tech. / Internal evaluation forms a vital component of programme accreditation by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC). Feedback from students concerning course content and quality is one of the minimum requirements according to the Council on Higher Education (CHE) Criteria for Programme Accreditation, and up to date no research has been conducted regarding students’ perceptions of the current Master’s Degree in Technology: Homoeopathy. The aim of this study was to investigate the general perception amongst students on the outcomes and effectiveness of the Master’s Degree in Technology: Homoeopathy as offered at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in the form of a qualitative evaluation. This was a descriptive study that was conducted in the form of a questionnaire survey. It contains qualitative as well as quantitative information. The sample group included a total of 32 participants from the fifth year students of 2006, extended fifth year students, and graduates that have been in practice for less than a year. This research proved to be useful in bringing problem areas within the Master’s Degree in Technology: Homoeopathy to light. Common themes that surfaced were subjects whose contents were not applicable enough to homoeopathy, vast lack of practical experience, an inadequate amount of resource materials, and a need for improved communication between the Department of Homoeopathy and students.
