nÃo hà / Este trabalho investiga, atravÃs de testes economÃtricos, a ocorrÃncia da convergÃncia de renda entre os estados da federaÃÃo, no perÃodo compreendido entre 1985 e 2006. Conquanto tenha como tÃtulo o estudo da Ã- convergÃncia condicional, inclui-se aqui a anÃlise de σ- convergÃncia, sem a qual nÃo se obteria dados conclusivos acerca da ocorrÃncia de convergÃncia. Os dados para a pesquisa, fornecidos a partir de ÃrgÃos oficiais, sÃo os valores coletados de PIB dos estados, o levantamento dos anos de estudo mÃdio das pessoas com 25 anos ou mais e os coeficientes de Gini e de Theil. A metodologia adotada foi a regressÃo cross-section com uma dummy para as regiÃes Norte e Nordeste, em virtude da relevÃncia de dados estatÃsticos que cindem o crescimento das regiÃes em dois grandes perfis, sendo o destas com tendÃncia francamente apartada das demais. Utiliza-se nos testes economÃtricos o modelo de crescimento econÃmico sugerido por Barro e Sala-i-Martin onde, para a regressÃo da Ã-convergÃncia, se agrega uma variÃvel educacional, amparada na vasta doutrina que demonstra ser esta um relevante fator direcionador do crescimento econÃmico. Do resultado obtido com os testes economÃtricos, conclui-se ocorrer a hipÃtese da convergÃncia, por verificar-se a Ã- convergÃncia condicional de renda nos estados brasileiros, alÃm de σ- convergÃncia. Confirma-se, assim, o fato das economias mais pobres, situadas nas regiÃes Norte e Nordeste, tenderem a um crescimento mais acelerado rumo ao seu steady-state, quando comparadas Ãquelas mais ricas, e todas tenderem a atingir um patamar de desenvolvimento comum. / This work investigates, through econometric tests, the occurrence of income convergence among Brazilian States for the period between 1985 and 2006. Despite being the study of conditional Ã-convergence, it includes the analysis of σ- convergence, necessary to obtain conclusive data on the occurrence of convergence. The collected data used in the research were provided from official agencies of brazilian States. They are composed by values of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), of the survey about the time of average schooling of persons aged 25 years or more and of Gini and Theil coefficients. The methodology adopted was a crosssection regression with a dummy for the North and Northeast regions, because of the relevance of statistical data which separates the profile of growth trend of these regions from the others. The economic growth model suggested by Barro and Sala-i- Martin is used to the econometric tests. An educational variable supported by the broad doctrine as an important guideline of economic growth is added to the regression of Ã-convergence. The conclusion, according to the econometric tests results, is that the hypothesis of convergence occurs. It is based on verification of conditional income Ã-convergence and σ-convergence in Brazilian states. Therefore, it is confirmed the tendency of poorer economies, located in North and Northeast regions grow more rapidly toward its steady-state in comparison with the richest ones and the tendency of all of them achieve a level of common development.
