Knowledge sharing: How ICT and organizational culture increase sharing of knowledge within firms

Sjöland, Mattias, Persson, Sara January 2013 (has links)
As companies of the 21th century are getting more and more globalized it is important for companies to stay ahead of their known and unknown competitors. Knowledge is a key factor for many companies. Knowledge cannot always be transmitted effectively between employees in companies. Large sized enterprises have adopted various information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to transmit knowledge fast and efficiently. Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have according to previous research, not been able to apply ICT to their business as well as large sized firms The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the gap, which exists between the usage of ICT and knowledge sharing in Swedish SMEs. In this dissertation, a deductive approach will be used as the theories are existent but are lacking empirical data. The research was performed through qualitative studies, and the method that was used was case studies. The case studies were performed in four companies, which belong to the production/service industry, all the companies fall into the category of SME. A model was constructed from existing theories made by Hendriks (2001) this model was analyzed and tested thoroughly. In the analysis of this dissertation, the model was developed as new factors were discovered to have an influence on what is affecting managerial perception of ICT and how it is being used for knowledge sharing. Our findings suggest that ICT use is affected by an influence, which exists in an external layer. This influence consists of legal requirements. Legal requirements seem to have a large impact on how ICT is being used in some companies, which are operating in a knowledge-based industry.

Influential Factors in Innovation Initiatives at a Telecom Equipment Supplier : A Study of Lead Generation and Add-on Sales’ Hindrances and Enablers

Souza, Alina, El Ghazouani, Anas January 2016 (has links)
Abstract In this research, we aim to look at the inner workings of Lead Generation and Add-on Sales through the eye of the people working directly with it. We do that with the objective of understanding what contributes positively to its success and what can cause problems or hinders it throughout all its stages from generating innovative ideas to implementing and selling them. We have chosen a qualitative method to conduct this study using an interpretive paradigm in performing our analysis of the findings. The data was collected by organizing interviews with participants that we selected in collaboration with Telco’s researchers. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and coded to form our primary data. In addition to that, we have used vast secondary data that was deemed to be relevant to the subject we were researching. After analyzing the results and findings, we look to answer the research questions, which concern the difficulties accompanying the innovative process between initiating an idea and implementing it as well as identifying the enablers and hindrances that arise during the operations of these innovative initiatives called Lead Generation and Add-on Sales. Once factors were identified, further analysis is performed to discuss if these factors are hindrances or enablers to the innovative initiatives at Telco. The frontline employees’ new business ideas (leads) or add-on sales are added as inputs to the ICT systems of this initiative and follow to subsequent phases until reach the commercialization phase in case they succeed, all the phases and processes occur through the ICT systems. In the context of this research, technology plays a key role and not only make the Lead Generation and Add-on sales processes viable but is also a factor that can either facilitate or impede potential leads or add-on sales to succeed. We put forward a model to better illustrate our findings and clarify the reasoning behind them. Despite the delimitations in terms of scope of this research, we believe that our findings and analysis can play a role in contributing to the understanding of factors that can be a barrier in the pursuit for innovation.

The strategic e Government documents create background of the thesis. The analysis and evaluation of projects' statuses are made with using the annual reports. Both projects are described and related to the legal system of CZ and commercial legal ICT systems. Factors supporting the learning of retail banking information and communication technology systems : a western Kenyan region perspective

Okong'o, Brender Adhiambo 02 1900 (has links)
This study identified and empirically investigated individual employee, organisational and information and communication technology (ICT) systems factors to determine the extent to which these factors support employees’ learning of the adopted retail banking ICT systems before undergoing training. Quantitative research approach was followed. A realised stratified random sample of 237 respondents consisting of tellers and customer care consultants (one group) and line managers (second group), working at branches of various retail banks in the western region of Kenya, participated in this study. Descriptive, exploratory factor and inferential statistical analyses were conducted. The results showed: a high level of agreement with the identified factors; significant positive linear relationships between the factors; statistical significant differences (p<0.05) between the respondent groups and between the categories for each demographic variable with regard to the respondents’ level of agreement with each factor. Supportive and directive learning strategies were recommended for retail banking employees before training. / Business Management / M. Com. (Business Management)
