Para isso, parte-se da análise do envolvimento político da Comissão Brasileira Justiça e Paz (CBJP), da Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil, em espaços de contestação política da sociedade civil, tomando como exemplo o caso de sua participação no Fórum Social Mundial (FSM). A investigação baseia-se sobre as abordagens que destacam o papel dos valores e da identidade coletiva, bem como da mobilização de repertórios organizacionais e lideranças no estudo de movimentos socias. A pesquisa empírica revela que o envolvimento político histórico de movimentos sociais ligados à Igreja Católica formou uma identidade coletiva específica entre seus militantes, ancorada sobre os valores e a estrutura organizacional da Igreja, que estimula o engajamento político de organizações como a CBJP em espaços de crítica social. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This study aims at contributing for the understanding of the relation between religion and political engagement, through the investigation of how the Catholic collective identity and values can influence political mobilization. The political involvement of the Brazilian Commission for Justice and Peace (CBJP), of the National Conference of the Bishops of Brazil, in the civil society spaces of contention are analyzed, taking as example its participation on the World Social Forum (WSF). The investigation is based on approaches that emphasize the role of collective identity and values as well as of the mobilization of organizational repertoires and leaderships in the study of social movements. The empiric research shows that the historical political engagement of social movements related to the Catholic Church created a specific collective identity among its activists, anchored upon the values and organizational structure of the Church, which stimulates the political engagement of organizations, such as the CBJP, in spaces of social criticism.
