Por meio da análise de títulos das matérias jornalísticas e de entrevistas com proprietários e editores dos jornais, que revelaram várias informações importantes, confirmando os resultados da análise, foi possível detectar detalhes do emaranhado jogo entre a imprensa e o poder, na disputa, nem sempre leal, entre os diversos atares políticos. Interesses acima da preocupação com o leitor/eleitor, tentativas de sugestionar o público, slogans sobre determinados candidatos, entre outros fatores, mostram o comprometimento dos jornais estudados com o poder político local / Abstract: This paper points out the links between the press and the political and economical powers, through messages publicized on newspapers in the city of Pouso Alegre, south of Minas Gerais. The study was held during the pre-electoral months of three years: 1994, 1996, and 1998. Details of the tangled game played between the press and the power in the not always loyal dispute between the diverse political agents could be detected through both the analysis of the headings of journalistic coverages and the interviews with proprietors and editors of newspapers. These intervieus revealed information, confirming the results of the analysis. Interests above the concern with the reader/ elector, attempts at influencing the public, slogans about particular candidates, among other factors, all indicate the commitment between the researched newspapers and the local political power / Mestrado / Politicas de Educação e Sistemas Educativos / Mestre em Educação
