Distribution of Organotin Compounds in Love River and Chen-Chang River of Kaohsiung

Li, Li-Ting 17 August 2011 (has links)
Kaohsiung Harbor is the largest international sea port in Taiwan, a lot of ships around the world pass in and out frequently, the pollution of organotin is very serious in the harbor area. Love River and Chien-Chen River may be polluted by the seawater tidal action from the Kaohsiung harbor. Domestic, industrial and agricultural wastewaters discharged into the upstream sections may also cause the pollution of organotin. The purposes of this study were to understand sources of organotin pollution by analying the content of organotin compounds and to monitor the organotin pollution of the rivers in Kaohsiung. Samples including surface sediments and riverwaters were collected from nineteen stations of Love River and Chien-Chen River. The results revealed that concentrations of MBT, DBT and TBT in the riverwaters of Love River varied between 13.4-43.6, 2.6-9.9 and ND-13.5 ng/L as tin. The concentrations of MBT, DBT and TBT in the riverwaters of Chien-Chen River were 3.1-28.1, 2.1-10.9 and ND-9.1 ng/L as tin, respectively. The concentrations of MBT, DBT and TBT in the surface sediments of Love River varied between 20.6-92.3, 7.6-26.2 and ND-15.4 ng/g as tin. The concentrations of MBT, DBT and TBT in the surface sediments of Chien-Chen River were in the range of 22.4-70.0, 6.4-14.1, ND-31.9 ng/g as tin, respectively. MBT and DBT were detected in all the samples of all the sampling stations of Love River and Chien-Chen River. Distribution of organotin compounds in riverwaters and surface sediments showed a consistency between these two rivers. No phenyltin pollution was detected at all stations, probably due to the decline in agricultural activities and the ban on utilizing triphenyltin acetate as pesticide. Except the highest organotin pollution appeared in the outfall of Love River and Chien-Chen River, other high values of pollution were found near the upper reaches of both rivers.

The Perfect and Happy ending of Fairy Tale? A study on the relationship between Taiwan idol dramas and love concepts of female audiences

Wang, Li-wei 09 May 2012 (has links)
In the past, the main audiences of TV serials in Taiwan are housewives, but less TV serials set youngsters as target audiences. Recently, the appearance of ¡§Taiwan idol dramas¡¨ that plots are close to youngsters¡¦ life styles gives the youngsters a different choice and becomes a popular TV serial type among youngsters. ¡§Love¡¨ is an important element in Taiwan idol drama. For attracting audiences¡¦ attention, the producers will focus on the plots about love and make the contents that fit to the audiences¡¦ favor. The producers and screenwriters pay much attention on the plot-setting, but they ignore how they affect audiences¡¦ values and expectance for love of the society. For finding the relationship between Taiwan idol dramas and female audiences, the research combines cultivation and Use & Gratification, two different ways of audience research. By content analysis, the research defines the love world in Taiwan idol dramas. By questionnaire survey, the research understands the impressions and opinions for Taiwan idol dramas of female audiences with different viewing motives, viewing behaviors, and love experiences. Results show the particular love concept in Taiwan idol dramas will influence love concept of female audiences, and the love concept will be strengthened when they are heavy viewers. With much more motives like entertainment and information-learning, the particular love concept of audiences will be strengthened by the particular love concept in Taiwan idol dramas, but with much more motive like ritual viewing, the particular love concept of audiences will be weakened by the particular love concept in Taiwan idol dramas. No matter the audiences lack love experiences or have blessed love experiences, the love concept in Taiwan idol dramas will not influence love concept of audiences.

The Measure of Love Lost: Jeanette Winterson's "Written on the Body" and the Discourses of Love, Melancholy, and Disease

Wheeler, Stephanie K. 2010 August 1900 (has links)
Jeanette Winterson’s novel Written on the Body asks what it means to express love not through language but through the body, where it is felt, challenging the boundaries placed between body and language. Using Winterson’s novel and Roland Barthes’s A Lover’s Discourse as points of inquiry, this thesis examines conceptions of love based on heteronormative and romanticized visions of present and healthy bodies. This thesis asks how a body that is diseased and dying can express an emotion that is predicated on these very notions of presence, absence, and health. The narrator of the novel sees love as a scripted story that, once adhered to, determines the (successful) experience of love. Louise’s cancer threatens these scripts of love, as it destroys the narrator’s conception of both love and Louise. Despite the fact that Louise is absent and dying, the narrator begins to write a new story that will allow him/her to have a perfect relationship with Louise, so that s/he can reconcile the contradictions of the scripts that the relationship exposed. Using Slavoj Zizek’s “Melancholy and the Act” and Richard Stamelman’s Lost Beyond Telling as frameworks of mourning and melancholy, the narrator’s melancholy over a lost presence thus emerges as a way that allows him/her to create a perfect love story. To make Louise appear perfect in this perfect love story, the narrator manipulates the language of disease that reconstructs Louise's physical absence as a textual presence. The discourse surrounding Louise thus begins to operate out of the desire to compensate and supplement what is missing; in Louise's case, the narrator is supplementing her with a "normal," healthy body. Looking in the shadows of the narrator’s memories, Written on the Body emerges as not only an account of the narrator’s love story, but also an account of Louise’s story, a story of a body that refuses to be written on and demands to be heard. Winterson demonstrates how the body is always in the process of creating knowledge and meaning that can only be obtained by questioning what is normal, both for the body and for the scripts we all adhere to.

Listening to the whispering of love in the popular songs¡G A Survey of love values of Taiwanese seior high students

Lin, Jing-yi 27 June 2004 (has links)
The purposes of this study were to explore the love values reflected in Mandarin popular songs in Taiwan and related values among Taiwanese senior high students. The researcher adopted content analysis and questionnaire survey as the major research methods for the research. A total of 1081 pieces of lyric of popular songs which have been voted as the top 10 of each week in the CASHBOX Magazine from May, 1998 to May, 2003 were located to conduct the content analysis. The questionnaire, based upon the literature review and the results of the lyric content analyses, were filled out by 854 senior high schools students in Kaohsiung city and Kaohsiung county. The statistic measures of descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-squre test and cross tabulation analysis were used for the data analyses. The study concluded in the following findings: 1. Love values of Mandarin popular songs from May, 1998 to May, 2003: (1)Love is still the most important topic in popular songs. (2)Most popular songs usually present a situation of frustration or crisis during the love. (3)Most lyrics often reflect the negative side of love. 2. Love values of Taiwanese senior high school students (1)Most senior high students still hold more positive attitudes toward love. (2)The experiences of being boyfriend or girlfriend, whether to be in love presently and being crazy about popular songs or not, all three did make difference among the various aspects of love values of senior students. (3)Gender, school location and regularly listening to popular songs or not make no difference in students¡¦ love values. 3. The difference between the love vlues of lyrics and those of senior high school students. The results were that there existed a lot of differences between lyrics and senior high school students. Most lyrics offen reflect negative love values, but most senior high school students have opposite views toward love. According to the research results mentioned above, the researcher found that the love values of lyrics of popular songs were different from those of senior high school students. At the same time, the lyrics did not completely reflect the love world held by the adolescent. Therefore, due to the fact that the content analysis of lyrics was not the only measure adopted to project the love values of the adolescent, it would not be the sufficient instrument in exploring fully the loves values of senior high students in Taiwan.

The distribution of the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Love River and Chianjen River

Lee, Yu-hui 10 August 2005 (has links)
Turning back to look Kaohsiung city¡¦s development and history of exploitation, both of them had a close relationship with the Love River and Chianjen River. Along the rivers, there are numerous industrial estates and large population. The basin of the rivers is important in politics and economy to Kaohsiung. However, the development of Kaohsiung also causes organic pollution, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs), released to water system. Furthermore, some of these pollutants are carcinogenic, so that this topic is quite important. This study investigates PAHs concentrations and seasonal variations in sediments and suspended solids of these two rivers. Total PAHs concentrations varied from 110 to 4300(ng g-1 dry wt) in sediments and 1500 to 7000(ng g-1 dry wt) in suspended solids of the Love River. Total PAHs concentrations of sediments and suspended solids of the Chianjen River exhibited in the range of 230-3900 (ng g-1 dry wt) and 490-9200 (ng g-1 dry wt), respectively. The average PAHs concentration during rain/ dry season of the Chianjen River is significantly higher than those of the Love River. Compared with global data in literature, level of total PAHs concentrations in sediments and suspended solids of the Love River and Chianjen River belongs to moderate pollution. Total PAHs and total organic carbon (TOC) is significantly related except suspended solids of the Chianjen River. However, the relationship between total PAHs concentrations and mean particle size is not significant because of inequilibrium resulted from different sources. Referring to Sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), most of stations are in safe range, only total PAHs concentrations at station L8 in rainy season is significantly higher than the standard ERL value. For each individual compound, the concentrations of many low-molecular-weight PAHs are higher than their standard ERL¡BLET and LAET values. The result of HCA shows that in both dry and rain season, these two rivers¡¦ sediments and suspended solids are separated into upstream and downstream groups. It is believed that the existence of an intercept device set up in midstream of both rivers is the reason. The PAHs in sediments of the Love River is mainly contributed from automobile exhaustion, while suspended solids in the Love River is mainly contributed from petrogenic source. However, both sediments and suspended solids in the Chianjen River are mainly contributed from combustion pollution.

Ko Matsushita's suite: Anthology of Love

Huang, Hsiao-Yin 25 July 2006 (has links)
Multiculturalism is one of the major trends in the choral education of the Twenty-first Century. Choral conductors attempt to capture diverse repertories from around the world. Japan, a country not very distant from Taiwan, is full of splendid choral development and composing achievements. Ko Matsushita is a Japanese choral conductor, composer, and educator. He is the conductor of ten choirs that have won many international choral competitions in the last decade. He also won the Carl Orff Composer Award two times. Matsushita was awarded the honor of the Robert Edler Prize in 2005 for his outstanding work in promoting choral music. Anthology of Love is a suite for female chorus with piano accompaniment. It was premiered in October 2003, and was published by KAWAI in August 2004. This suite contains four pieces: Somewhere or Other, Malayan Love Songs, A Poem for April, and Last Song of a Poet. These songs trace four different stages of love in human life: innocent, attractive, matured, and heroic love. All the Japanese lyrics in this work are taken from Shuntaro Tanikawa¡¦s poem collections. The piano accompaniment can play an important part in the music but requires a performer with advanced technique to deliver that result. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the Introduction. Chapter Two discusses the background of Matsushita: Part One is a biographic sketch of Matsushita¡¦s life; Part Two introduces the musical style and characteristics of Matsushita¡¦s female choral works. Chapter Three focuses on the origin of lyrics and analysis of these four pieces. Chapter Four supplies rehearsal techniques and teaching suggestions for conductors. The diction fundamentals of Japanese and pronunciation of the lyrics are also included in this chapter. Chapter Five is the Conclusion. There are three appendices at the end of this thesis. Appendix A supplies four letters from Matsushita. Appendix B is a list of Matsushita¡¦s published choral works. Appendix C contains the translation and the Romanization of the Japanese lyrics for these four pieces.

Difference Transformed: Love and Adventure in Middle English Breton Lays

Hsu, Shih-Ting 25 July 2000 (has links)
Abstract The Breton lay, a genre claiming to enjoy popularity in Medieval England, often arouses critics?debate on its legitimacy of forming a distinct genre. By alluding to the remote literary form, the Anglo-Norman and Middle English author create their own Breton lays according to their social and historical context. Donovan asserts conclusively that the Breton lays are all concerned with the idea of

A Study of Love and Marriage in the Female Novels in the May Fourth Era

Yang, Ya-chuan 23 July 2009 (has links)
May Fourth society encouraged the female writers to progress and requested them to play the role of "an understanding wife and loving mother". This conflicting expectation made "the love and marriage" a major trial for the educated female at that time. The May Fourth women's liberation movement had this characteristic: women were utilized as a tool rather than liberated human beings. Sharing a common background, the May Fourth female writers tried to find a family of ¡¨her¡¨ own besides the father's family and the husband's family. This dissertation tries to study and compare ¡§the love and marriage issue¡¨ in the novels of the May Fourth female writers such as Chen Hengzhe¡]³¯¿Åõ¡^¡BLu Yin¡]ÃfÁô¡^¡BSu Xue-Lin¡]Ĭ³·ªL¡^¡BBing Xing¡]¦B¤ß¡^¡BLin Shu-hua¡]â¨ûµØ¡^¡BFeng Yuan-Jun¡]¶¾¨J§g¡^Shi Ping-Mei¡]¥Ûµû±ö¡^.It is this author¡¦s hope that through this study we can understand more what these female writers thought on the issue of gender subjectivity.

Gender Discourse in Talk-show Program- using " University" as An Example

Lin, Chao-Chun 02 February 2010 (has links)
Media is taken as one of ¡§ideological state apparatuses¡¨ which reproduces and delivers dominant ideologies, and audience always internalize these dominant ideologies and take them for granted. Talk-show program is one kind of television genre, its gender ideology is constructed by daily conversion. In addition, inviting normal people to attend talk-show programs is becoming a trend; it makes ideologies closer to reality, and not easy to be found. Aim to understand how gender ideologies work in talk-show program, this study uses Taiwanese talk-show program ¡§University¡¨ as an example, analyzing 22 texts of ¡§University¡¨ by textual analysis. Besides, the other main purpose of this research is to understand the progress of production, so the researcher interviewed a producer and four guests of ¡§University¡¨ to have clearer concept about production. This study found that there are many topics about gender issue in ¡§University¡¨, and most of them focus on woman. Analyzing these texts, the results show that gender stereotype and patriarchal concepts are usually delivered when talking about gender traits, and in this program, they always narrow down diverse viewpoints about gender with binary opposition. In addition, discussing about love, they not only maintain traditional gender order -¡§men are strong, and women are weak¡¨ and ¡§men are superior, and women are inferior¡¨, but also use hegemony of heterosexuality to oppress women with romantic love, and exclude homosexual. In this way, women will become inferior and subordinate to men. Finally, when talking about appearance and dressing, it¡¦s full of mainstreaming values in ¡§University¡¨, and these values make women to be an object which is gazed and desired by men. Thus, under kinds of pressures of beauty myth, women keep disciplining themselves, and they are used as a product for selling advertisement. These situations make women become victims of beauty in the end.
