Analysis of the of customer service provided at the Mafikeng Post Office / Maria Matshidiso MosalaMosala, Maria Matshidiso January 2006 (has links)
The study set to investigate customer care in the Mafikeng Post Office. This was
achieved through the following.
Highlighting any inadequacy of customer care process at Mafikeng Post Office,
determining if the current customer care tools utilised are optimal or not, determining
the extent at which such tools are utilised and determining where accountability lies for
customer care within the organisation.
The measuring instruments utilised was a questionnaire because of the descriptive nature
of the study. The questionnaire was in a structured format. I 00 respondents participated
in filling in the questionnaires. The findings indicated that most respondents are not
satisfied with the service provided with only a few who are happy about certain elements
of the questionnaire. The methodology adapted in this case was that of survey where a
questionnaire was administered. The chapter which? further gave the statement of the
problem and the objective of the study.
In chapter two, the nature and scope of customer service was outlined from the literature
consulted. The chapter defined terms like service, customer service and customer. The
chapter also focused on the important things that customers loves and loathe, approaches
to handling a customer especially an unhappy customer. The literature indicates that
there is a need for good customer service. Customer service also requires that all the key
players should get involved in.
Chapter three presented research problems and posing some research questions. The
questionnaire was the key instrument in the collection of data for the study.
Chapter four presented the research design which incorporates the sampling design. The
researchers recommends that staff need to be trained on the following: how to be friendly
to customers and greet them with a smile. Greet them by name if possible as it will
impress the customer to notice that staff members know them. To be polite and pleasant
when talking to clients. To be trained on product knowledge as it improves competency
and confidence of client in a person.
Adequate training of staff is important as it ensures provision of quality service to the
clients, thus reducing complaints. Even though the results of the study were not
satisfactory, it is important for the management of the organisation to concentrate on

In this study, a theoretical framework within the structure and agency philosophical perspective is presented to aid understanding of the land development process. In order to demonstrate how such theoretical framework may be used, the study focuses on three case studies consisting of high rise office developments in the Golden Triangle Area of Kuala Lumpur. It is argued that traditional models of the land development process are unable to explain adequately the structure and processes of the built environment. Hence, the principal reason for undertaking the study was to assess the suitability of the structure and agency approach to explaining and understanding the land and property development process in a fuller context. In this study, there are two problems. First, to formulate a set of hypotheses in relation to the factors driving the office development process in Kuala Lumpur. The hypotheses concern the interests and strategies of individual agents involved in the development process and the way the underlying structural factors, affect and changes with changing agents actions and interactions. Second, to assess whether Healey's (1992) model of the land development process, which is used as a means to approach this research, is a relevant device to carry out empirical studies on land development process. It is concluded that, in general, the office development process involved complex institutional and agency relationships. The office development process in Kuala Lumpur is shaped by the form of economic and institutional structure which influenced the interests and the way agents behaved in deploying resources. One important finding is that this research is difficult to undertake. The difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the office developments under study, but also resulted from the deficiency of Healey's (1992) model.

Modelling of displacement ventilation and chilled ceiling systems using nodal modelsRees, Simon J. January 1998 (has links)
Cooling and ventilation of office spaces by displacement ventilation and chilled ceiling panel systems is potentially more energy efficient than conventional air conditioning systems. Heat transfer in this type of system is characterised by the presence of vertical temperature gradients and significant radiant asymmetry. The room heat transfer models used in current building simulation methods do not allow adequate representation of this type of system due to their reliance on a single node to define the internal air temperature. The overall aim of the work described in the thesis has been to develop a model of this type of system that is suitable for use in annual building energy simulation. The model presented, is intermediate in complexity between a CFD numerical model and the current single air node models, having ten air nodes. The operating characteristics of displacement ventilation systems, used both with and without chilled ceiling panels, have been studied by making experimental measurements in a test chamber and by reference to published experimental data. Numerical calculations of the flow and temperature fields have been made with a coupled flow and radiant exchange CFD code. Steady state calculations have been made of displacement ventilation using a conjugate heat transfer method. Interesting oscillations in the flow and temperature field of displacement ventilation operating with a chilled ceiling have been found through adopting a fully transient calculation procedure. The thesis describes how the experimental and numerical data has been used to develop the structure and define the parameters of a simplified nodal model. The logical development of the model structure, from the most elementary model to one which is able to capture the effects of the temperature gradients and incomp1ete mixing of the air in the room is described. A method is also presented whereby the parameters of the model are found directly from the experimental data by solving the heat and mass balance equations of the nodal model. The parameters of the model have been generalised by analysing these calculations and by making use of established convection coefficient correlations. The performance of the model is demonstrated by firstly making comparisons of the experimental and numerical data under steady state conditions, and also by demonstrating that the model is able to reproduce the characteristics of displacement ventilation and chilled ceiling systems under different operating conditions.

The main objective of this thesis was to understand the environmental variables that affect humans psychological states when it comes to stress. More specifically, the environmental variables at the company Maintpartner AB's new Swedish headquarters office in Årsta, Stockholm, a company concentrated on customized industrial maintenance and operation service. In my thesis I found evidence that open-plan solutions would be a stressor due to increase disturbance from coworkers. Open-plan offices could also be perceived as a stressor because of the limitation in personal control. Through implementing nature and/or integrating it via visual escape the space could be perceived as more attractive and less crowded. Maintpartner AB's administrative personnel has highly individual work tasks and therefore a need for customized workplaces. This resulted in a design concept with separated office rooms, individually designed to meet the staffs individual need. Some areas are designed to work as meeting areas for work or social related encounters
