Trends in the Number and Location of Independent Pharmacies in the United States

Bartoli, Lauren January 2011 (has links)
Class of 2011 Abstract / OBJECTIVES: To determine the trends in number and location of independent pharmacies across the United States. METHODS: Data was collected from the NCPA Digest from 2006, 2007, and 2008. Census data was obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau using the 2000 Census. RESULTS: Overall, the number of independent pharmacies increased by nearly 1000 from 2006 to 2008. However, each state had varying results. There was a clear difference between the average rural population and the average percentage of independent pharmacies across the U.S. CONCLUSION: Independent pharmacies have grown in number in recent years, but more studies should be done to include a greater time period and more recent data.
