It‟s accomplished a literature review in order to understand the BSC and its application to for profit and non for profit organizations and as a main result it is proposed a BSC conceptual model with a new perspective (Government) and a change in the hierarchy of the main BSC perspective equaling financial to customer/society. Taking the national higher education assessment system of Education Ministry indicators a model is deployed and the relations between the indicators are measured with the Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result a model emerges with sound relations of indicators but a improvement in the financial indicators is needed / Esta Tese investiga de modo explorat?rio uma modelagem dos indicadores de desempenho de Institui??o de Ensino Superior (IES) privada usando a abordagem do Balanced Scorecard (BSC). ? feita uma revis?o dos modelos conceituais de hierarquia das perspectivas do BSC e proposta uma modelagem com uma nova perspectiva, Governo, dado o contexto do sistema de ensino superior no Brasil, e uma altera??o na hierarquia, colocando Finan?as e Cliente em um mesmo patamar. Usando indicadores do SINAES Sistema Nacional de Avalia??o do Ensino Superior, ? feita uma modelagem do BSC e testadas as rela??es te?ricas de causa-efeito usando o coeficiente de correla??o de Pearson. Da an?lise resultou um modelo de BSC para IES privadas que cont?m indicadores b?sicos explicativos que podem ser ?til para a gest?o do desempenho, tanto das IES privadas quanto do Sistema de Ensino Superior p?blico. Um ponto de melhoria ? a cria??o de indicadores financeiros mais apropriados
