Understanding Strategic Planning in culture and creative industry¡ÐA Case Study of PiLi Multimedia

Chang, Chan-chung 07 September 2009 (has links)
Culture is one of the most important properties in every country. Although every country has her own culture, it isn¡¦t easy to find a viable business model and turn it into a real industry. Hollywood is very famous around the world, and it really makes a lot of people know the culture of movies. Also it contributes a great quantity of profit to USA. In Taiwan, our government also works hard to develop a real industry with our culture and make a higher profit. In 2005, our government listed the culture and creative industry in the project¡yPlan for National Development in the New Century ¡zto imrpove the relative environment and to train more people. However, we find most of our enterprises in culture and creative industry are small - medium companies and their scale is not big enough to compete with overseas companies. Culture and creative industry is full of uncertainty and risk (Hesmondhalgh,2002). For these small - medium companies, we may need a systematic method to build the business model.¡yStrategy planning¡zis a very famous tool or theory in management which offers a systematic thinking and makes a correct strategy. Moreover, these successful companies in culture and creative industry are good at using media to promote their goods or services. Media is not only a promotional tool, but also a channel to access the information from the customers or fans. Therefore, I combine this factor into this research to find how the companies use this information from media to help their strategic planning. In this research, I use qualitative research method to find a typical case, PILI multimedia, which is famous with the palmar drama in Taiwan. For enterprise, I use the strategic planning to find how well the information from the multimedia affects the planning process. This research separates the strategic planning into four steps to help us understand the information flow more clearly. From the research findings, , several suggestions are made for the companies in culture industry . ¡]1¡^To find the media your own culture goods or service really want. ¡]2¡^Use the information carefully and order it. ¡]3¡^Make sure your organization could handle the huge and complicated information.

We need therefore we seek : information behavior of lesbians in Hong Kong

Wang, Yin-fai, 王燕暉 January 2013 (has links)
Purpose - Previous research has explored the information needs of homosexual people for identity development and connecting to others, but neglected to study how they find information in response to their situations. Research has also indicated that gay people suffer from social marginalization and psychological distress, but failed to explore how they seek information to cope with these challenges. Moreover, no study has been conducted regarding lesbians in Hong Kong, a heterosexual-dominated Chinese society that emphasizes traditional family values and conformity to social norms. This study aims to pat1ially fill this research gap. Methodology - Synthesizing sense-making and phenomenological approach. The present study examines Hong Kong lesbians ' information needs, seeking, and use in identity formation, psychological and social well-being. Live experiences of participants are collected through face-to-face in-depth interviews for analysis, followed by triangulation with data collected via pal1icipant observation and document analysis. Findings - Results show that unlike findings indicated by previous study, informants of this study do not perceive virtual communication to be as secure and comfortable as their western counterparts do. As depicted in the thesis, informants in different situations have unique needs and different information behavior, e.g. whether they are single or in relationships; whether they are openly gay, completely in the closet, or half-way out; whether they have religious beliefs or focus on personal growth; whether they are advocators, participants, or bystanders of gay movements. Results also indicate that although intertwined, psychological needs should be dealt with before needs in identity formation and social well-being, in order to boost exploration efficiency as well as receptivity of information sought. The relationships between trustworthiness, variety and reception of information are discussed based on informants' live experiences. Another finding worth noting is that affordance of the internet and abundance of data/information has been slowing down and interrupting information seeking, implying the importance of information literacy. Recommendation - Recommendations are made to information providers based on informants' feedback. Specifically, the public libraries of Hong Kong should establish a discrete LGBT section with a wider variety of materials and convenient circulation policies to better serve the LGBT population in Hong Kong. Additionally, the Hong Kong LGBT community is suggested to establish an information centre for message dissemination, resource sharing, and mass mobilization. Furthermore, Lesbians are advised on how to improve the effectiveness of their information seeking. Further research - Further research is suggested to investigate how lesbians of different socio-economic backgrounds seek information to fulfill their respective needs. It would be also interesting to study what settings and environment might provide rewarding information seeking experiences for sexual minorities. Value - This study improves understandings of the thoughts, behavior, and attitudes of Hong Kong lesbians during their information seeking process to meet their needs. Life experiences of 5 Hong Kong lesbians are portrayed in detail by interactively presenting their questions asked and answers found. The findings are useful for people and professionals who have contact or work with this social group for better understanding, communication, and services. / published_or_final_version / Library and Information Management / Master / Master of Science in Library and Information Management

Everyday life music information-seeking behaviour of young adults: an exploratory study

Laplante, Audrey January 2008 (has links)
The aim of this qualitative research was to contribute to a richer understanding of the everyday life music information-seeking behaviour of young adults. The objectives were (1) to uncover the strategies and sources young adults use to discover new music artists or genres, (2) to understand what motivates young adults to engage in information-seeking activities, and (3) to explore what clues young adults look for in music items to make inferences about the relevance or utility of these items.Fifteen young adults (18 to 29 years old) of the French-speaking Montreal Metropolitan community participated in this study. The data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Drawing on the research on shopping behaviour and music behaviour, Wilson's 1996 model of information behaviour has been revised and used to guide data collection and analysis. The data were analyzed inductively, using the constant comparative method. The analysis revealed that the participants had a strong penchant for informal channels (i.e., friends, colleagues, relatives) and low trust of experts (i.e., librarians, reviewers, music store staff). It also emerged that music discoveries were often the result of passive behaviour. When music was actively sought, it was rarely a goal-oriented activity. Indeed, it was mostly the pleasure they took in the activity itself – the hedonic outcome – that motivated them to look for music rather than an actual information need. Related to that, browsing, which is best suited for non-goal oriented information seeking, was a very common strategy among participants. The study also revealed that rich metadata, such as bibliographic information, associative metadata, recommendations, and reviews, were highly valued by the participants. In addition to allowing people to browse music in different ways, these metadata represent valuable information that is used to make inferences about the type of experience a music item proposes.
