När ett barn blir inlagt på sjukhus, är oftast en förälder tillsammans med barnet under hela sjukhusvistelsen. Alla föräldrar är inte nöjda med sjukvårdspersonalens bemötande och den information de får. Föräldrar som inte är trygga i vårdsituationen kan bli ett sämre stöd till sitt sjuka barn. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att öka förståelsen för föräldrars behov och förväntningar på vården då deras barn var inlagt på sjukhus. Metoden var en litteraturstudie innehållande tio vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultatet visade att när barnet var inneliggande på sjukhus, önskade föräldrarna kontinuerlig information angående sitt barns tillstånd, behandling och prognos. Den information som gavs skulle vara rak, ärlig och lättförståelig. För att föräldrar skulle känna trygghet och få förtroende för sjukvårdspersonalen var det första mötet mellan sjukvårdspersonal, barn och förälder ofta det allra viktigaste. Det var viktigt för föräldrarna att barnet blev sett och uppskattat som en unik person av sjukvårdspersonalen och inte enbart som en patient med en sjukdom. Föräldrarna önskade att sjukvårdspersonalen skulle vara trevlig mot både dem och barnet, att de skulle bli respekterade som föräldrar och att familjen skulle ses som en helhet. För de flesta föräldrar var det viktigt att vara delaktig i barnets vård och vara en länk mellan barnet och sjukvårdspersonalen. De önskade att sjukvårdspersonalen mer frekvent hade frågat om de behövde hjälp med sitt sjuka barn. Föräldrarna ville inte själv fråga om hjälp eftersom sjukvårdspersonalen ofta verkade stressad och upptagen. Om sjukvårdspersonalen på bästa möjliga sätt försöker bemöta föräldrarnas förväntningar och behov när deras barn är inlagda på sjukhus, kan det leda till att föräldrarna blir trygga i vårdsituationen och därmed blir de ett bättre stöd till sitt sjuka barn. / When a child is hospitalized, a parent is often present during the whole stay. All parents are not pleased with the appearance and the information given by the medical staff. When parents are not feeling secure with the situation at the hospital, they become less supportive to their sick child. The purpose of this study was to increase understanding of parents’ needs and expectations, when their child was hospitalized. The method was a literature study including ten scientific articles. The result showed that when a child was hospitalized, the parents wished to receive continuous information about their child’s state of health, treatment and prognosis. The information given by the medical staff needs to be straightforward, honest and easy to understand. The first meeting between the medical staff, the parents and their child were most important in order to make the parents feel secure and get a feeling of trust. It was of great value to the parents, that the child was recognised and appreciated as a unique person and not just as a patient. Parents wished that the medical staff should be nice to them and their child, and that they would be respected as parents and that the whole family would be seen as a unit. Most parents considered it important to be involved in the care and to be a connection between their child and the medical staff. They wished that the medical staff more frequently had asked them if they needed assistance with their sick child. Since the medical staff often was stressed out and busy, the parents hesitated to ask for assistance. If the medical staffs, in their best possible way try to meet the parents' expectations and needs when their child is hospitalized, it can lead to the parents being ensured in the care situation and thus they become a better support for their sick child.
