Title: Theoretical studies of rolled-up and wrinkled nanomembranes Author: Mgr. Peter Cendula Department: Department of Condensed Matter Physics Thesis Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Oliver G. Schmidt, Prof. RNDr. Václav Holý, CSc. Abstract : The thesis is devoted to three similar topics from the field of rolled-up and wrinkled nanomembranes. We start by recalling classical theory of thin plates, which will be used to describe deformation of nanomembranes. In the first topic, relaxation of internal strain is studied when a flat film is partially released from the substrate by etching the sacrificial layer underneath. Energetic competition of the tube and wrinkle shape is quantitatively investigated. Similar model is used to investigate the limiting maximum value of tube rotations. In the second topic, roll-up of initially wrinkled film is shown to favor tubes forming on the flat edge of rectangular wrinkled pattern, enabling precise control of tube position. Experiment is provided to justify our theoretical predictions. In the third topic, quantum well is assumed inside a wrin- kled nanomembrane. Shift of transition energy induced by lateral modulation due to bending strain is quantified, being of interest for strain-sensitive optical detectors and emitters. Place, meaning and shared experience: the construction of the Tabl¯igh Jam¯aa identity in Johannesburg

M.A. / A specific identity is not an inherent quality of human nature. Yet all humans have identities. The question then arises as to how identities are formed and what influences their formation. In this study it is asserted that identities are constructions and that, as such, they occur within a space and time. The particular interrelations and meanings that occur in a space and time result in the formation of a place. Place, then, influences the constructions of the identity. In this study the Tablīgh Jamā̉at (TJ), a movement that seeks to improve the practice of Islam amongst Muslims, was investigated to assess what influenced the construction of an identity amongst its members in Johannesburg. The Tablīgh Jamā̉at, which is the single largest Islamic movement in the world, originated in India in 1927 and was established in South Africa in the early 1960s. The movement has a large presence in the Muslim community of Johannesburg. The execution of activities related to the movement, the promotion and manipulation of the message and activities of the movement, as well as physical and material capabilities independent of the movement were found to influence the construction of the identity. These, together, have shaped the meaning, in a place, due to the manipulation of shared experience. However, there are also physical and material constraints that limit the further construction of identities. The reliance of the identity on factors that are not inherent to it poses a challenge for the development of theory regarding social identities. / Prof. Peter Alexander

Inferring function: A Study of three prehistoric structures in El Pital, Puerto López, Manabí, Ecuador

This thesis focuses on the possible functions of three stone structures associated with the Manteno culture (500-1532 A.D.) of coastal Ecuador. The ceramic distributions of each structure were compared (C4-044-1, C4-096-2 and C4-097-2) and the diagnostic sherds were analyzed by form according to Mester's and Rowe's ceramic classifications (Mester 1990; Rowe 2005). The statistics suggest that each of the structures served different functions. C4-044-1 likely domestic, C4-096-2 probably functioned as a kitchen and C4-097-2 was a storage area. A χ2 test suggests that the ceramic forms from C4-044-1 differ significantly from those recovered from C4-096-2. Diversity indices indicate that C4-044-1 has the highest diversity of vessel forms and that its diversity differs significantly from the other structures. Příprava řezů vzorků a jejich analýza metodou SIMS / Preparation of sample cross-sections and analysis by SIMS

This thesis studies possible methods of semiconductor sample measurement by SIMS, with emphasis on testing different measurement parameters and sample preparation. Part of this master thesis deals with the design of a modified sample holder compatible with the used ToF-SIMS$^{5}$ instrument, IONTOF company, which is capable of tilting the sample by defined angle. This holder enables sample preparation in the main chamber of the instrument without the need of transferring the sample between instruments, which limits the probability of sample contamination. This sample holder was tested by ion machining of TIGBT sample edge and by imaging of a crater edge, created in previous measurement. Edge termination structures prepared by different techniques were measured on the TIGBT samples. Further measurements with the goal of optimizing the depth resolution for thin layers were done on Molybdenum-Silicon-multilayer X-Ray Mirror. Part of the measurements was focused on comparing depth profiles measured at low temperatures. For these measurements the samples with Indium multilayers in GaN substrate were used.
