The war has turned Yemen into the greatest humanitarian catastrophe on earth, according to the UN. A partial blockade is upheld with Swedish weapon technology, and starves the Yemenis. Five million children risk dying. I documented the UN-led peace talks on Yemen, which Sweden hosted in 2018. In Stockholm I later on confronted ordinary people with the question: How can we stop the war? Also, I started baking a miniature model of the ancient city of Sanaa. With the help of archive material, gingerbread houses and a filmed survey in and around Stockholm, I explored how to remedy the cruelty and apathy in the world. Yemen is called the "forgotten war", and this thesis attempts to highlight what we would rather keep out of our consciousness.

This work concentrates on Yemen, a developing country which also belongs to the list of the least developed countries of the world. This diploma work describes the situation in Yemen in the beginning of 21st century. With the help of presentation of general problems of the developing countries and instruments that solve these problems, together with the presentation of the current situation in Yemen, suggestion for improvement in the surveyed country are made.

The submitted diploma thesis deals with failed states and tries to find out whether the Republic of Yemen can be classified as a failed state. First of all, the diploma thesis defines the term state and its functions, and then focuses on the terminology of weak statehood that has come into existence in the international politics. The thesis concentrates on the Failed States Index and analyzes its social, political and economic indicators. The theory is later applied on the case of Republic of Yemen.

Der dritte Band der Potsdamer Textbücher befasst sich mit gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen im konfliktreichen Nahen Osten. Die Zusammenstellung der Texte erfolgte sowohl mit Blick auf die anhaltende Kulturkreisdiskussion als auch hinsichtlich der Bemühungen um Stabilität in dieser Region. Hinzu kommen Analysen zur wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung und den politischen Regimes in Israel, Palästina, Ägypten, im Jemen und Iran. Auszüge aus Verfassungen arabischer Staaten, statistische Angaben und eine Bibliographie vervollständigen das Textbuch.
