SVOBODA, Rudolf January 2007 (has links)
This dissertation deals with life and work of Jan Prokop Schaaffgotsche (1748-1813), who was from 1785 till his own death in the lead of the newly established episcopacy of České Budějovice town. In its first part this work characterizes spiritual and social environment of the Habsburg monarchy during the period of reformed absolutism of Joseph II in which Schaaffgotsche lived whole his life. In the next part my dissertation comes closer to his origin, youth, studies, spiritual formation and years of work in various church offices until the time he was nominated by Emperor Joseph II to the post of bishop in České Budějovice. Coming part shows various important events of the first quarter century of the new diocese existence. Those are closely connected with Schaaffgotsches activities. Based on this research and critically compared with specialized literature this work thematically analyzes his relation with church and state as well as his spiritual direction and personality, together with his categorization to the broad spiritual flows of his age. Topic of this dissertation is primarily compiled on the bases of Czech and also foreign archive resources.

Apologie josefínských náboženských reforem po nástupu Leopolda II. / Apology of religious reforms of Josephinism after the accession of Leopold II.

Krejčová, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
Apologia of religious reforms of Josephinism after the accession of Leopold II. This thesis is based upon an apologetical work "Kontrast zwischen den Grundsätzen des Prälatenstandes in Böhmen und jenen der auf Veranlassung Kaisers Leopold II. als Großherzog von Toskana im Jahre 1786 gehaltenen Diözesansynode zu Pistoja". This file was issued in 1791 and was addressed to the Bohemian clergymen as a reply to their demands that were presented by the clergy at the Bohemian Diet after Emperor Joseph II. had died. It resumes both the significance and circumstances of the mentioned clergymen's presention and its results. It also focuses on several controversial topics, such as conflicts of demands on chande of religious life held by representants of the Church against entlightened State representatives. Not only it tries to document the reforms that had been executed by Emperor Joseph II and his brother Leopold, it also considers the most important ideological movements that form that creation of the relationship between the State and the Church within the Early Modern Period.

Reflections of the Don: Zerlina's Empowerment Narrative and the Inclusion of "Per queste tue manine" in Don Giovanni

Miller, Sarah 01 January 2018 (has links) (PDF)
After the premiere of Don Giovanni in Prague, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte brought their opera to Vienna on May 7, 1788. One point of interest in the Viennese version of the score is the added duet “Per queste tue manine.” In this duet, the enraged Zerlina overpowers the bewildered servant Leporello with a handkerchief, a razor, and passion. She constrains the floundering fool and punishes him for his misconduct. In most modern performances, companies look no further than the Prague version of the score. Additionally, singers often portray Zerlina as either a mischievous temptress or a virginal peasant girl. Since modern opera companies often dismiss the Viennese score of Don Giovanni as insignificant and scholars often deem the role of Zerlina as simplistic, a holistic analysis of the role of Zerlina is needed. Viewing the interpretations of her character by Kristi Brown-Montesano and Wye Jamison Allanbrook through the lens of eighteenth-century gender politics and my own musical and literary interpretations results in a more complete understanding of the peasant girl. Through an analysis of the Viennese version of Zerlina’s character, I contend that Zerlina functions as a mirror-image foil to Don Giovanni. As Zerlina gains autonomy through the control of her own body, the Don loses his power over others and eventually his own life. This multi-dimensional understanding of Zerlina’s character is only possible if “Per queste tue manine” is taken into consideration.
