A pergunta serviu de fio condutor para a presente pesquisa. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo compreender as opiniões e experiências vividas por jovens moradores de comunidades da zona sul da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O resultado constitui numa abordagem empírica e descritiva desses jovens. Para tanto, investigou-se grupos de jovens moradores de duas comunidades desta cidade. Discute-se os conceitos de juventude a fim de saber sua importância no processo de mudança social e aponta-se para a ―adultização‖ dos jovens. Aponta-se as diferentes visões de pobreza dando ênfase ao referencial teórico que prioriza as subjetividades relacionadas às condições socioculturais. Determinou-se as oportunidades e os obstáculos que os jovens enfrentam e seus esforços para sair da pobreza. Escutar os jovens pertencentes a diversos estratos sociais e trabalhar levando suas opiniões em consideração é importante para sabermos atender melhor suas preocupações, ajudá-los e dar uma resposta a seus anseios. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / What do young people from two slums in Rio de Janeiro think about poverty? The question became the guiding principle for this research. This dissertation aims to understand the opinions and experiences of young residents of communities in the south area of Rio de Janeiro city. The result is an empirical and descriptive approach of these young people. For this purpose it was investigated groups of young who live in communities in the south area of this city. The concepts of youth are discussed in order to know their significance in the process of social change. This dissertation also indicates the early maturation of young, a social phenomenon that it may be called as ―adultization‖ of individuals. It points out different views of poverty with emphasis on theoretical framework that prioritizes the subjectivity related to sociocultural conditions. It shows the opportunities and obstacles they meet and also their effort to escape poverty. Hearing the young people of different social strata and work taking their view into account is important to better understand and to meet their concerns, to help them and to respond to their anxieties and expectations.
