The changes that the press suffered during the 50’s and also the political, economical and social questions (of that period) are discussed in this paper. The objective of this analysis is to perceive the role of communications in the construction of the memory fabric of Juscelino and also the image of Brazil of those years. / O presente trabalho se propõe a analisar a construção da imagem pública do ex-presidente do Brasil – Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira -, através das fotorreportagens de duas revistas ilustradas semanais de grande relevância no período do seu governo: 'Manchete' e 'O Cruzeiro'. São abordadas as transformações sofridas pela imprensa nos anos 1950, assim como questões políticas, econômicas e sociais do período. A análise objetiva perceber o papel dos meios de comunicação na 'fabricação' da memória não só de Juscelino como também do Brasil daqueles anos.

The JK government consolidated the country’s industrialization process, created Brasilia and is regarded as a single case in national contemporary politics, as it was the only civilian government to start and end its mandate according to constitutional rules, up to the military dictatorship period. Employing a recollection process, the present dissertation intends to remember historical fatcs which, through the narration of Manchete magazine, have contributed for the creation of a positive image both of president Juscelino Kubitschek and his own government. The magazine issues bringing his image of a great statesman justify the existence of that political myth in the collective memory. Kubitschek’s trajectory was characterized by his sympathy, his persuasion power and by the unique strenght of his argument, against which silence was imposed after the 1964 military coup. Through its stories, Manchete shaped what happened at that time, in a country under an accelerated developing process, thus contributing to bringing forth the myth of the golden years. / Os anos entre 1956 a 1961 foram pródigos para o desenvolvimento do Brasil. O governo JK consolidou a industrialização brasileira, criou Brasília e foi considerado um caso singular na política contemporânea, por ser o único governo civil que começou e terminou seu mandato segundo as regras constitucionais, até o período da ditadura militar. Através da rememoração, lembramos de fatos históricos, que através da narrativa da revista Manchete, contribuíram para a criação de uma imagem positiva de Juscelino Kubitschek e de seu governo. As edições constantes de sua imagem de grande estadista justificam a existência, na memória coletiva, do mito político. Sua trajetória foi caracterizada por sua simpatia, seu poder de persuasão e pela força de sua oratória durante o seu governo e posteriormente calada pela ditadura militar, implantada no Brasil em 1964. Manchete deu forma, através de suas fotorreportagens, aos acontecimentos de um país em acelerado processo de desenvolvimento, contribuindo desta maneira, com a criação do mito dos anos dourados.
