Attitudes of college students toward love : a partial replication

Fraizer, Nancy Ann 03 June 2011 (has links)
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of single college students toward love. In addition, the Knox-Sporakowski (1968) Love Attitude Inventory was replicated to provide further information concerning the inventory’s ability to measure love attitudes.A Likert type questionnaire, developed by Knox and Sporakowski (1968), was mailed to 700 college students. The sample was representative of the number of students per class standing on the Ball State University campus. Of the 700 questionnaires, 358 were returned, and 356 were usable. The results were analyzed according to sex and class standing of the student. The results of the factor analysis indicated that the Knox-Sporakowski (1968) Love Attitude Inventory had four factors. Factor II was the major factor in determining love attitudes in the tests of two hypotheses. The tests of the hypotheses indicated that both males and females were realistic rather than romantic in attitudes held, with males being more romantic than females. In addition, love attitudes became more realistic as students advanced in class standing.Honors CollegeBall State UniversityMuncie, IN 47306

A Study on the Attitude of the Vocational High School Students towards Love

Tung, Fu-chiang 24 July 2004 (has links)
Abstract This study, based on the method of questionnaire survey and interview, mainly investigate the attitude towards love among the vocational high school students. In the process, the researcher made reference to correlated documents first, and then inducted the information as the reference of study design. Furthermore, the researcher modified the Love Attitudes Scale by Hendrick & Hendrick (1986) and experienced the pre-tests and formal tests. By the information of statistics and analysis, this study investigated the differences among the vocational high school students in personal factors (grade or sex), personal experiences of falling in love (times of having fallen in love, whether being falling in love or not, or the lasted time of falling in love) and the condition of his/her parents¡¦ relations (very good, good, bad or very bad). Simultaneously, the researcher picked six boys and six girls as interviewers, making the semi-structured interviews according to the outlines of six distinct attitudes for love. This study summed up the connected information which analyzed the love in the mind of the vocational high school students. Through the discussions and analyses, this study came to the following conclusions: 1. The students of first grade in vocational high school, whose attitude towards love tends to ¡§storge¡¨ more. 2. The girls in vocational high school, whose attitude towards love tends to ¡§pragma¡¨ more. 3. The boys in vocational high school, whose attitude towards love tends to ¡§eros¡¨, ¡§ludus¡¨, ¡§storge¡¨, ¡§mania¡¨ and ¡§agape¡¨ more than the girls. 4. Investigating the attitudes towards love in distinct experiences of falling in love among the vocational high students by means of the formal questionnaire, this study got the following points: (1) Those who fell in love once to four times tend towards ¡§eros¡¨ more than those who never fell in love. (2) Those who never fell in love tend towards ¡§ludus¡¨ more than those who fell in love once to four times. (3) Those who never fell in love tend towards ¡§storge¡¨ more than those fell in love once to four times and those more than four times. (4) Those who are falling in love now tend towards ¡§eros¡¨ more than those who are not falling in love now. (5) Those who are not falling in love now tend towards ¡§ludus¡¨ more than those who are falling in love now. (6) Those who are falling in love now tend towards ¡§agape¡¨ more than those who are not falling in love now. (7) Those who fell in love for 6 to 12 months and those for more than one year tend towards ¡§eros¡¨ more than those who fell in love for 1 to 3 months and those who never fell in love. (8) Those who never fell in love tend towards ¡§ludus¡¨ more than those who fell in love for more than one year. (9) There is not evident difference between the attitudes towards love among the vocational high students and the condition of their parents¡¦ relations (very good, good, bad or very bad). 5. This study got the following points from the interview. (1) The definition for love among the vocational high students is that there are feelings between two sides, that they are willing to give to each other without any complaint and regret and that there is the phenomenon of owning him/her by herself/himself. (2) Family is the earliest organization that one steps into the society. It¡¦s an important institution as well. As parents, they are supposed to pay attention to the feeling management so that there are good interactions with their children. As a result, their children can get well along with the opposite sex. (3) The Mr. Right in vocational high students¡¦ hearts is supposed to have both ¡§the outer¡¨ and ¡§the inner¡¨. The former includes the height, the appearance and wearing long hair. The latter includes the emotional conditions (personal quality, talent, character, behave and obedience, ¡Ketc.) and the instrumental conditions (being good at study, sport, specialty and home chores, ¡Ketc.) (4) According to the response for the questions of the formal questionnaire from the interview, most of the questions were able to investigate the inner view points of the interviewers, except for the question 10, 13, and 26 about ¡§ludus¡¨ are completely opposite, and question 2, 5, 21 and 27 about ¡§storge¡¨ and question 7 about ¡§mania¡¨ are not correspondent completely. According to the above conclusions, this study puts forward the proposals that are classified as the fallowing: 1. The suggestions for students. (See this thesis) 2. The suggestions for parents in teaching their children. (See this thesis) 3. The suggestions for educators. (See this thesis) 4. The suggestions for being engaged in research. (See this thesis) 5. The suggestions for the study method. (See this thesis)

The study of the distribution of organotin in the Love River in Kaohsiung

Chi, Tse-hsien 09 September 2004 (has links)
Abstract Love River, the longest river in Kaohsiung City, 12 km in length, originates from Jen-Wu village of Kaohsiung County and goes into Kaohsiung Harbor from the northeast to southwest. Width of the river is increased from 14 m of the upstream to 130 m. Because there were active shipyards and many boats in Kaohsiung Harbor, TBT in paint as biocide to paint the ship will be released into seawater and cause the long-term contamination of organotin. It is possible that Love River may be polluted by the seawater from Kaohsiung Harbor for the intertidal zone of Love River reaches Chih-Ping Bridge. The goal of the present study is to analyze water and sediment of Love River in order to find out whether Love River has been polluted by organotin and, if yes, where the polluted source is. The samples were derivated with the Grignard reagent¡]n-pentylmagnesium bromide¡^and extracted by n-Hexane. Clean samples were concentrated to about 1 ml under a gentle stream of purified nitrogen gas. The final extracts¡]3£gl of each¡^were injected into a gas chromatograph with a flame photometric detector. The results reveal that TBT and DBT were predominant in the whole area of study. The concentration of TBT¡]29-360 ppt¡^was higher than DBT¡]0-292 ppt¡^in the riverwater. In the sediment, the concentration of DBT( 154-68800 ppb ) was higher than TBT ( 3650-30222 ppb )¡C Gransize between 0.053¢Pto 1.00¢P was predominant in the extent of sorption of organotin to sediments. The percentage of this gransize was from 82¢H to 98¢H. The major source of organotin pollution was Kaohsiung Harbor, but there were some other sources upstream of Chih-Ping Bridge. The polluted source of phentyltin was from the upstream of Chih-Ping Bridge and the branch of Love River¡]Canal, No2¡^. Comparing to other countries, organotin pollution was more serious in Love River. The concentration of TBT exceeded maximum allowable level of 20 ppt in accordance with regulations set by Britain. It is necessary to strengthen the regulation of organotin in Taiwan.

The effect of tides on suspended matter and water quality in estuaries - an example of Love River, Kaohsiung

Hsiao, Shin-han 08 February 2007 (has links)
Estuary is an area with very complicated characteristics, which is mainly affected by tidal dynamics. The salinity of a tidal river is influenced by tidal characteristics where fresh water meets salty water and thus causing the complexity. The Love River in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has been chosen as an study area for the researches describing in this thesis work. The four sampling stations cover the tidal zone of the Love River. Through frequent sampling, which corresponds to spring tides, neap tides and even during complete tidal cycles, the water quality and the variations of particle circulation in estuary area can be comprehended better. The distributions of the nutrients in the river are different during spring tides and neap tides. Nitrite and nitrate are mainly come from the upriver or generated by the nitrification within the river. In addition, the results from the whole tidal cycle experiments show that high flow rate occurs at the bottom during the period of turning tides, which caused higher SPM concentrations in the bottom layer. This is mainly due to the accumulated agitations at the river bottom were resuspended by the strong currents. Analytical results from a Pearson product-moment correlation has shown that the SPM concentrations in the bottom water partly come from the resuspension processes of bottom sediments. Nutrients accumulated in the bottom sediments were released into the water column by the SPM resuspensions. The result of PCA shows that the changes of tides affect the distribution of salinity has a strong negative correlation with turbidity and SPM. It also shows that tides not only have a quite obvious influence on suspended particle matters but also dominate the distribution of suspended particle matters through out the Love River.

Whitacre Five Hebrew Love Songs's Music Analysis and Interpretation

Chou, Yen-wen 21 July 2008 (has links)
Eric Whitacre (1970 - ) is a contemporary American composer. Although he is still young, he has composed in many different musical genres, especially in choral music, where he shows his remarkable talent. Because Whitacre tactfully mingles classical and modern musical characteristics, he is always invited to compose music for ensembles throughout the world. In 2001, Whitacre became the youngest recipient ever awarded the coveted Raymond C. Brock commission by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Five Hebrew Love Songs is one of the few choral works of Whitacre¡¦s with an accompaniment. Completed in 1996, this work was written for a soprano solo, a pianist, and a violinist. In 2000, it was rearranged for a mixed choir. Up to this point in time, there have been five different versions of the the arrangement. Five Hebrew Love Songs are presented in the form of a suite, the lyrics are five Hebrew love poems written by his wife, Hila Plitmann. The first song, Temuna¡]A Picture¡^depicts the refined and subtle love inside a person's heart, just like an imprint left in one¡¦s mind. The second song, Kala Kalla¡]Light Bride¡^describes a newly married man's expectation for love, and exquisitely expresses his eagerness for love. The third song, Larov¡]Mostly¡^uses roof and sky as the main characters, and tactfully takes the close distance between them as a metaphor for the subtle distance between two lovers, which is both close and far. The fourth song, Eyze Sheleg! ¡]What Snow!¡^associates the falling snowflakes with the frequently appearing perfect hopes, just like the joy of love approaching trippingly. The fifth song, Rakut¡]Tenderness¡^depicts the simple, honest, sincere and direct love that cannot be described by more words. The first song, Temuna is a song especially composed for two-part female voice with violin and the piano, and presented with a C major triad and a C minor triad in an interchanging way. The song is full of alternate changes of brightness and darkness. Besides, the rhythm of a Sicilian dance is employed as the main material all throughout this song, creating a rhapsodic atmosphere. The second song, Kala Kalla is replete with episodic characters and contrasts. The entire song presents intense changes in tempi, harmony, rhythm, melody, texture and dynamics. The third song, Larov makes use of the up and down scale to create the effect of ¡§word- painting¡¨ and presents a tableau painted with lyrics. The song is composed of many fourth and fifth intervals, contributing to the music¡¦s feeling of more fluctuations and waves. The fourth song, Eyze Sheleg, is composed of tone clusters intended to imitate snowflakes and to create the beautiful scene of falling snowflakes all around which also accommodates the free rhythm. The fifth song, Rakut, uses a dotted-note motive to create the rhythm of dance music. When matched with the melody of the Hebrew tribal style, the whole song ends in romance. The master report consists of five parts. The first is an introduction. It is followed by: Biography of the Composer, Eric Whitacre, Biography of the Lyricist, Hila Plitmann, Compositional Techniques of Five Hebrew Love Songs and Interpretation of this work and finally, a Conclusion. There are five appendices added. Appendix 1 is a basic and brief introduction of Hebrew language, and its pronunciation rules. Appendix 2 presents the lyrics in their original language and a translation. Appendix 3 contains an explanation of the pronunciation of the lyrics of the Five Hebrew Love Songs. Appendix 4 is the full text of an e-mail reply from Hila Plitmann. Appendix 5 introduces all the choral works of Eric Whitacre.

Studies of the Distribution and Species of Organotin in Love River of Kaohsiung City

Yang, Ping 18 August 2009 (has links)
Love River, 12 km in length from inland to the sea, is the longest river in Kaohsiung. Love River passes through the harbor of Kaohsiung and connects with the sea bring hidden ecological crises. Because there are persistent shipping from the whole world, several shipyards and fishing ports in the harbor of Kaohsiung, the pollution of organotin is very serious in the harbor area. It¡¦s possible that Love River may be polluted by the seawater from the harbor of Kaohsiung for the long intertidal zone and the estuary, in the harbor of Kaohsiung. Upstream sections may be also polluted by organotin compounds from domestic, industrial and agricultural wastewater. This study is not only collecting the surface and bottom riverwater during winter and summer, but also sampling the sediments in Love River. These samples are derivated with NaBEt4 and analyzed the concentration of organotin by gas chromatograph with a flame photometric detector. The results reveal that concentrations of MBT are 8.2-25.0 ng/L as tin, DBT are 3.3-17.1 ng/L as tin, TBT are 4.3-9.1 ng/L as tin in the riverwater. The concentrations of MBT are 12.5-69.2 ng/g as tin, DBT are 7.1-31.2 ng/g as tin, TBT are 15.8-22.6 ng/g as tin in the surface sediments. The pollution of organotin decrease from the harbor of Kaohsiung to the water gate in the downstream. A peak of pollution is found near the Yu-Cheng bridge in the upstream. The concentrations of the vertical distribution of sediments, MBT are as high as 61.2-273.2 ng/g as tin, DBT are 22.8-256.2 ng/g as tin, TBT are 8.6-168.4 ng/g as tin, it indicates that Love River was polluted extremely seriously by organotin compounds in the past. However, phenyltin compounds were not detected in these samples. As compared with previous reports, today the pollution of organotin compounds has been greatly reduced in Lover River. But it remains to be cared in order to reduce the potential ecological crises which are brought by the pollution.
