Verification and comparison of the results of object-oriented analysis with traditional methods of pixel-based classification showed differences in the of classification methods. In the case of object- oriented analysis spectral information are evaluated for the whole object. The highly heterogeneous objects such information may be averaged out and the object is thus classified as atypical representative of a certain class. Pixel classification methods, however, assess the quality of each pixel of the raster, so that any heterogeneous objects are divided into several classes. Master of Landscape Architecture / Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning / Mary C. Kingery-Page / Temporary landscapes are an emerging project type with in the field of landscape architecture. Pop-up parks, parklets, and temporary art installations have been gaining media attention and changing notions of open space. Landscape architects need to take a more active role in the planning, design, and execution of these temporary landscapes. Peter Bishop describes temporary land use as “an intentional phase” where the “time-limited nature of the use is generally explicit” (Bishop, 2012, p. 5). This research refines Bishop’s definition by stating temporary landscapes must be intentionally time limited designs of open space. Currently the unorganized variety of projects has impeded landscape architects’ ability to evaluate and learn from these spaces. This research project seeks to understand and synthesize different characteristics of temporary landscapes. A typology was developed by identifying key themes in literature, composing a carefully curated series of precedent studies, participating in the development of a temporary pop-up park in Wichita, Kansas, and developing a matrix that identifies the relationships between temporal types. The products of this research will help planners and designers develop more successful and intentional temporally limited designs.

Typology of Nature Parks in the Czech Republic Nature parks cover about one tenth of the Czech Republic. They are classified under general protection of nature and landscape in the nature and landscape system of our state and primarily serve to protect the landscape character with significant aesthetic, natural and cultural values. Nature parks are currently set up by a law regulation by regional authorities. This thesis provides comprehensive information about all nature parks in the Czech Republic, describes their history and their present form. The thesis deals with the research of landscape protection and landscape character. The main result of the thesis is the creation of a typology of natural parks of the Czech Republic, rated by their landscape coverage and selected natural conditions - altitude, typological division of the relief, climatic conditions and height vegetation levels. Study of landscape change is a subject of interest for a wide range of professional work both in the Czech republic and abroad. This thesis therefore does not give a simple description of the changes in the landscape, but rather focuses on the further synthesis of these findings and the subsequent creation of a typology of land cover changes and their impacts on landscape structure in the region of interest, including also its heterogeneity. It is therefore a process of allocated areas that formed and still form the same processes that lead to homogenization of the landscape, as opposed to its fragmentation. Area of interest is so-called Visegrad Group of countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland). There are four countries of the former Eastern bloc in Central Europe, which shared some relatively similar initial conditions for the further development of the landscape after the "release" of the regime change in 1989. Current approaches of anthropogenic impact on the ecosystems and ecosystem services are within the scope of this master's thesis. The aim of the thesis is, on the basis of current landscape classifications, landscape typologies, and their combination with approaches of ecosystem services classification, to appoint socio-ecological units as functional socio-ecological types of the territory. In other words, on the basis of classification listed, this thesis attempts to prove, that socio-ecological units are functional socio-ecological types of the territory, which should be given proper attention. Socio-ecological landscapes are defined according to degree of anthropogenic impact, selected socioeconomic characteristics, and selected ecosystem services. The thesis focuses on three of four categories of ecosystem services defined in Millennium Ecosystem Assessment - provisioning services, regulating services, and cultural services. More and more attention of scientists and artists is paid to the effect of sound to human and ecosystems. Due to technology development and growing urgency of human impact new approaches are being formed. This thesis is based on concepts of acoustics ecology by R. M. Schafer. In addition to noise mapping, Czech geographical research does not reflect the growing urgency of sound environment issues. In this thesis I present terminology, concepts and some methods which are used in acoustic ecology or soundscape ecology. A literature search shows the application of these terminology, concepts and methods in a geographical research, specifically in urban and landscape planning, geography of tourism, leisure, health geography or landscape ecology. In an empirical part I followed a pioneering idea of acoustic landscape typology. I used qualitative research, listening walk and narrative conversation, to obtain data about soundscapes. Through these data I critically evaluated and compared acoustic typology of landscape by Hendrych and Hynek (2008). I used recording of soundscapes and spectrograms as secondary methods.
