  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

A search for the decays B⁺ [arrow] l⁺[nu] and B⁰ [arrow] l⁺ [tau]⁻ (l = e, [mu]) using hadronic tag reconstruction /

Klemetti, Miika A. January 2007 (has links)
We present searches for the leptonic decays B + → ℓ+nu and the lepton flavor violating decays B0 → ℓ+/-tau ∓, where ℓ = e, mu, with data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. These searches utilize a technique in which we fully reconstruct the accompanying B¯ in Upsilon(4S) → BB¯ events, and look for a monoenergetic lepton in the signal B frame. The signal yield in the data is extracted from a fit to the signal lepton candidate momentum distribution in the signal B rest frame. Using a data sample of approximately 378 million BB¯ pairs (342 fb-1), we find no evidence of signal in any of the decay modes. Branching fraction upper limits of B (B+ → e +nu) < 5.2 x 10-6, B (B+ → mu+nu) < 5.6 x 10-6, B (B0 → e +tau-) < 2.8 x 10-5 and B (B0 → mu+tau -) < 2.2 x 10-5, are obtained at the 90% confidence level.

Coherent, correlated phenomena resulting from the incidence of high-energy leptons and photons on oriented crystals.

Vilakazi, Zeblon Zenzele January 1998 (has links)
A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. / The scope of the research reported in this thesis addresses some phenomena associated with lepton-photon processes resulting from the incidence of ultra-relativistic particles upon highly ordered crystalline materials. The study of channeling phenomena were extended to investigate coherent, correlated and strong field versions of the basic QED processes at much higher energies and at incident angles slightly larger than the channeling critical angle. Neutrino charm production and a limit to neutrino oscillations

Bailey, David Charles. January 1983 (has links)
The production of charmed particles and a limit to tau lepton production have been measured using a hybrid emulsion spectrometer in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam. / The relative cross section for charged current charmed particle production is / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / and the energy dependence of the cross section and the kinematic distributions of the charm events are given. One event with charm pair production was observed. A limit of (sigma)((nu)(--->)(mu)cc)/(sigma)((nu)(--->)(mu)c) < 0.06 (90%C.L.) is set to the ratio of charged current pair and single charm production. The relative rates of D(DEGREES), D('+), F('+), and (LAMDA)(,c)('+) production have been measured--the fraction of D mesons is / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / Momentum, transverse momentum, Feynman X, and fragmentation (Z) distributions are presented. The mean Z for charmed hadrons is 0.59 (+OR-) 0.03((+OR-) 0.03). / No tau leptons were observed, and an upper limit to the (nu)(,(mu))-(tau) coupling of 0.0063 (90%C.L.) is set. For (nu)(,(mu))-(nu)(,(tau)) oscillations this implies / (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) / for maximum mixing.

Black holes and higher dimensions

Doukas, Jason January 2007 (has links)
Higher dimensional black holes are studied in the extra large dimensions scenario. Bulk fermion quasi-normal modes and bulk fermion Hawking emission is calculated. It is found that bulk emission dominates brane emission for d > 5. / To address the Planck phase an effective field theory is investigated. Lepton family number violating processes are elucidated and the corrections to the muon magnetic moment from these channels are calculated. Bounds are placed on the couplings of the theory. / A discrete symmetry between quarks and leptons, and left- right- chirality fields, is orbifolded in 5 dimensions. Using split fermions a one generational standard model extension is found. / An investigation of entanglement in black holes and accelerated motion is presented. It is found that in a certain system the acceleration between two spinors enhances the rate of their disentanglement.
