Lugar (In) Comum: a parceria de Flávio Império e Fauzi Arap em Pano de Boca / -

Baraldi, Paula de Lima 15 December 2015 (has links)
À luz de textos de Foucault, Nise da Silveira, Pirandello, Chevalier e de textos e obras de Fauzi e Flávio, a dissertação aborda sincronicidades e busca similitudes entre o plano ficcional de Pano de Boca e a realidade do teatro paulistano dos anos 1970, além de pôr em cena os lendários teatros Arena e Oficina, e o show Opinião / This dissertation discusses about the partnership between the set and costume designer and visual artist Flavio Império and the playwright-director Fauzi Arap in Pano de Boca, first play written by Arap with a focus on the 1976\'s production, held at the Teatro Treze de Maio, in São Paulo. The text, divided into three levels, presents on the first one two characterscharacters, created by an invisible author, that dialogues with the audience without the use of the \"fourth wall\"; on the second one, an actress blurs the limits between life and art; on the third, a theatrical group decides about the future of the troupe, locked in the fictional plan inside an abandoned Theatre. Pursuant to Foucault, Nise da Silveira, Pirandello, Chevalier, texts and artworks of Fauzi and Flávio, the dissertation deals with synchronicities and searches for similarities between the fictional plan of Pano de Boca and the reality of São Paulo\'s Theatre in 1970\'s and brings into the scene the legendary Theatres Arena and Oficina, and the show Opinião.

Haptický model pro zrakově znevýhodněné zobrazující sv. Augustina / Haptic model displaying the Saint Augustine for visually impaired people

CHARVÁTOVÁ, Tereza January 2019 (has links)
This master thesis is composed of two sections, a theoretical and a practical one. The first chapter of theoretical part is focused on medieval European art with emphasis on a medieval artist and a wall painting. Next chapter describes ascetic life through religious order and their significant personalities. This part is primarily focused on a life of saint Augustin. The third chapter is about a project of Department of art which is focused on a creation of haptic models for sightless people and it describes its outputs. The practical part introduces a creation of haptic model according to a wall drawing of saint Augustin. This drawing is placed in cloister of a former Dominican monastery in České Budějovice. It represents a final conception of unordinary haptic model which is created in an embossed linear drawing.

Slow art : meditative process in painting and drawing

Robins, Amanda, School of Arts, UNSW January 2006 (has links)
This exegesis is an exploration of meditative process in painting and drawing and accompanies an exhibition of paintings and large drawings called What Lies Beneath. The text contains several passages, called &quotmeditations,&quot which accompany the themes approached in the chapters and give insight into the thoughts and practices of the artist. The methodology involves the examination of the evidence of the work produced by selected artists, looking at the words of artists in notebooks, diaries and interviews and surveying a small number of local contemporary artists. The text opens up the possibilities of drapery and garments and of still life as paths to meditative practice in painting and drawing. The qualities that characterize meditative process/practice, derived from my observations, are categorized. Some of the strengths of these processes are revealed through the examination of the work of artists, both contemporary and historical. The work of Vermeer, Sanchez Cotan, Francisco Zurbaran and contemporary artists Anne Judell, Simon Cooper, Jude Rae, Alison Watt and Eva Hesse highlight different aspects of the meditative process in painting and drawing. The art works in the exhibition are documented and bring out the meditative processes that have contributed to their creation, including the use and meaning of the subject (drapery and the garment as a form of still life).

Impact of TMPRSS2-ERG fusion gene on prostate cancer cell response to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy

Ovtcharov, Slav January 2015 (has links)
Many aspects of the mechanisms by which prostate cancer (PCa) progresses from being a confined tumour to advanced metastatic and castration-resistant disease remain unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate in vitro the potential role of the fusion gene TMPRSS2-ERG in the response of PCa cells to ionising radiation (IR) and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). This research focused on assessing the presence of the TMPRSS2-ERG transcript across various PCa cell lines and identifying any correlation between the TMPRSS2-ERG transcript and other genes, particularly genes related to DNA damage repair pathways. Several genes involved in cell metabolism and development were found to correlate with TMPRSS2-ERG but not genes involved in DNA repair. In accordance with previous reports, this research confirmed a proliferative advantage for cells expressing ERG. However this project also tested the role of ERG-status in response to chemotherapy, radiation and ADT. The data showed that VCaP and DuCaP cells exposed to low-dose radiation demonstrated decreased viability irrespective of their ERG-status. Similarly ADT decreased the viability of VCaP cells and seemed to neutralise the proliferative advantage of TMPRSS2-ERG positive cells. Stimulation with dihydrotestosterone caused increased radioresistance of TMPRSS2-ERG positive cells. Treatment with taxanes showed stronger effect on cells with lower ERG expression. This work suggests that the proliferative advantage conferred by ERG overexpression in in vitro models can be neutralised by castration and IR.

Fill in the blanks: art of the disconnection in urban daily life.

January 2012 (has links)
In contemporary life, more and more people move to live in urban city. Urban life is drastically different from rural life. In urban city, works are highly diversified and repetitive; people are fast-paced, efficiency-oriented and packed in very limited space for movement. The mode of living is tailor-made to the development of the city instead to the individuals who are living in it. Unsurprisingly, 100% of Hong Kong population is living in the urban area. Everyday we are trapped in this mismatch setting of time and space. It is the repressed emotion and desire that revealed by the miscommunication and disconnection among crowds of people, fostered and nurtured the unique practice of Hong Kong Artists. / In this essay entitled Fill in the Blanks - Art of the Disconnection in Urban Daily Life, I attempt to rethink and present an overall image of the body of my artistic work, while studying a series of theoretical and artistic references from the field of contemporary art and cultural studies. / This essay is divided in three main sections: the transformation from observation in urban daily life to conceptualization, the struggle between the artistic intention to execution in specific medium and the conveyance of meanings in artwork by the artist to audience comprehension and interpretation. It also includes the reflections on my thesis work We each walked 2000 kilometers to say good-bye. Through this exegesis, I would like to bridge the ‘blanks’ between my artistic practice, academic studies and daily life experience to draw a bigger picture, in the hope that my works could trigger more possibilities of discussion and interpretation. / Fong, Sum Yu. / Thesis (M.F.A.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2012. / Includes bibliographical references (leave 34). / Chapter 1 --- Introduction --- p.4 / Chapter 1.1 --- The blanks / Chapter 1.2 --- Fill in the blanks / Chapter 1.3 --- In Urban Daily Life / Chapter 1.4 --- Art of Disconnection / Chapter 2 --- Observation to Conceptualization in urban daily life --- p.12 / Chapter 2.1 --- Literature Review: Marvel of a Floating City / Chapter 2.2 --- Literature Review: Man of the Crowd / Chapter 3 --- Intention - Conveyance Interpretation --- p.17 / Chapter 3.1 --- Rational against Emotional / Chapter 3.2 --- Work Example: The Memory Series / Chapter 4 --- The Medium and its application --- p.23 / Chapter 4.1 --- The Documentary Value / Chapter 4.2 --- Personality in Working with Video / Chapter 4.2.1 --- Points of Concern and Ways of Presentation / Chapter 4.2.2 --- Montage / Chapter 5 --- Final Work: Love and Story --- p.31 / Chapter 5.1 --- Previous Related Work: Writing to reach you / Chapter 5.2 --- We Each Walked 2000 kilometers to say good-bye / Chapter 6 --- Conclusion --- p.33
