Contribuição para uma iluminação eficiente / Contribution to efficient lightingIsac Roizenblatt 22 July 2003 (has links)
This dissertation aimed to cover several aspects of lighting, beginning with some non-documented historical facts and then studying some barriers to the development of new technologies and their technical and commercial aspects. Next, it was described the energy saving potentials in lighting. Some lamps were discussed in the context of their application and their possible perspectives of discontinuity, when of low efficiency and of development, when efficient. The same focus was held for ballasts and luminaries. Further, there is a discussion of the aspects of investment and advantages of saving energy from the point of view of the consumer, of the industry and of the utilities. Despite the technical and economic viability, it is known that barriers of institutional and social-economic origin obstruct the penetration of efficient products in the market. That is why a great part of this study was dedicated to the introduction and discussion of policies able to enlarge the usage of energy efficient products. In chapters 5 and 6 we introduced possible related to changes not only in the codes of civil building, but also in the improvement of lighting standards for indoor and outdoor environments, as well as in the definition of the legislation, in order to cause changes in the market of these products. Studying and observing actions and measures taken locally and abroad, some suggestions were made as a contribution to efficient lighting.

Interior Lighting Effects Inspired by NatureRobinson, Diane L. 08 1900 (has links)
Developed in the study is the thesis that the lighting effects about us in nature can be adapted by the designer for use in interior environments. Because of an overemphasis in lighting practice on engineering techniques required in the design of luminous environments, there has been a neglect of much of the aesthetic requirements of such environments. While interior designers, as artists, may be sensitive to the aesthetic qualities of lighting, many of them have felt insecure in designing in a medium which can be very technical from an engineering standpoint; hence, many have defaulted in shaping or designing a very important segment of man's environment. In light of this situation, the objective of the study is to provide the designer with tools, both aesthetic and technical, with which to communicate with the engineer in achieving a luminous environment that not only is a functional environment for optimal seeing, but is an art experience as well. Lighting as an art experience has its own set of design principles: these are defined in this study as silhouette, focus, uniformity, variety, and glitter. They are common to lighting effects as found in nature and as found in the artificial environments of building interiors. The study has as its thesis that natural lighting effects are reproducible artificially by the designer if he understands the visual design principles of lighting and the elementary mechanics of lighting equipment and installation techniques.

ROMEO AND JULIET: THE SUMMER OF TRAGEDYHeal, Molly Christina 01 May 2023 (has links) (PDF)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OFMolly Heal, for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre, presented on April 4, 2023, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: ROMEO AND JULIET: THE SUMMER OF TRAGEDY MAJOR PROFESSOR: Wendi Zea I held the role of lighting designer for Southern Illinois University’s Fall 2022 production of Romeo and Juliet. This document details the design process beginning March 2022 through opening October 13th 2022. The first chapter dives into my research, inspiration and artistic plan for the production, as well as my personal goals. The second chapter details the design process as my process interacted with the rest of the design team. The third chapter shows the process of the implementation stage of the design process. The fourth and final chapter is an evaluation of my process and how the goals laid out in the first chapter were reflected throughout. The appendices hold all of the related imagery and paperwork to the design and production process. This includes inspiration and research imagery, schedules, renderings, lighting plots and paperwork, as well as final production shots.
