This is a hermeneutical study of an attempt to inculturate a Redemptorist parish mission in a black township parish. The purpose of Redemptorist parish mission is conversion and renewal. This study is influenced by - - the spirit of St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) founder of the Redemptorists - Vatican II (1962-1965) and by - the African Synod (1994); and it uses the systemic stage model of Rambo and the spiral model of Costas, as a framework to understand conversion. The conversion experiences of ten parishioners of St. Peter's parish are used as data for the study. A theological reflection on the ten conversions confirmed the following: that cultural context is important for understanding conversion; that conversion is both a distinct moment and a continuous process; that it is imperative to understand conversion from the perspective of the convert him/herself. Cette étude vise à apporter plus d'éclairage sur le mécanisme de rupture progressive sous deux volets. D'abord, la compréhension de certains aspects fondamentaux de ce mécanisme par l'entremise d'une revue de littérature la plus exhaustive possible; ensuite, l'examen de l'implication de ce mécanisme dans des glissements par étalement et plus précisément le glissement de Saint-Liguori au Québec. Il a été prouvé qu'une rupture dans une pente est précédée par des mouvements dit "de pré-rupture"; ces mouvements présentent un intérêt considérable et donnent un avertissement du danger imminent et la rupture progressive est un des éléments majeurs de l'étape pré-rupture dans les sols présentant un comportement anti-écrouissage. Décrit dans les années quarante et surtout dans les années soixante, ce phénomène a suscité un intérêt nouveau récemment avec l'avènement d'ordinateurs puissants. Il reste cependant ignoré dans la pratique courante, en particulier au Québec où il pourrait expliquer certains grands glissements de terrain par étalement comme celui de St-Liguori qui s'est produit le 3 juillet 1989. Cette étude a répondu à une interrogation qui est restée sans réponse au moment de l'analyse du Ministère des Transports du Québec concernant les causes du glissement en prouvant que le gradient hydraulique ascendant a pu impliquer une rupture par soulèvement de fond sous le lit de la rivière qui s'est traduit par une discontinuité dans la pente. Il est plus que probable que cette même discontinuité était l'élément déclenchant d'une première rupture locale qui s'est prolongée par rupture progressive.
