Spatial pattern recognition for crop-livestock systems using multispectral data

Gonzalez, Adrian January 2008 (has links)
Within the field of pattern recognition (PR) a very active area is the clustering and classification of multispectral data, which basically aims to allocate the right class of ground category to a reflectance or radiance signal. Generally, the problem complexity is related to the incorporation of spatial characteristics that are complementary to the nonlinearities of land surface process heterogeneity, remote sensing effects and multispectral features. The present research describes the application of learning machine methods to accomplish the above task by inducting a relationship between the spectral response of farms’ land cover, and their farming system typology from a representative set of instances. Such methodologies are not traditionally used in crop-livestock studies. Nevertheless, this study shows that its application leads to simple and theoretically robust classification models. The study has covered the following phases: a)geovisualization of crop-livestock systems; b)feature extraction of both multispectral and attributive data and; c)supervised farm classification. The first is a complementary methodology to represent the spatial feature intensity of farming systems in the geographical space. The second belongs to the unsupervised learning field, which mainly involves the appropriate description of input data in a lower dimensional space. The last is a method based on statistical learning theory, which has been successfully applied to supervised classification problems and to generate models described by implicit functions. In this research the performance of various kernel methods applied to the representation and classification of crop-livestock systems described by multispectral response is studied and compared. The data from those systems include linear and nonlinearly separable groups that were labelled using multidimensional attributive data. Geovisualization findings show the existence of two well-defined farm populations within the whole study area; and three subgroups in relation to the Guarico section. The existence of these groups was confirmed by both hierarchical and kernel clustering methods, and crop-livestock systems instances were segmented and labeled into farm typologies based on: a)milk and meat production; b)reproductive management; c)stocking rate; and d)crop-forage-forest land use. The minimum set of labeled examples to properly train the kernel machine was 20 instances. Models inducted by training data sets using kernel machines were in general terms better than those from hierarchical clustering methodologies. However, the size of the training data set represents one of the main difficulties to be overcome in permitting the more general application of this technique in farming system studies. These results attain important implications for large scale monitoring of crop-livestock system; particularly to the establishment of balanced policy decision, intervention plans formulation, and a proper description of target typologies to enable investment efforts to be more focused at local issues.

A tubular linear induction motor for potroleum exploitation.

Alvarenga, Bernardo Pinheiro de 11 February 2004 (has links)
This report presents the development of a tubular linear induction motor for oil well applications. The aim of the motor is to directly drive an on-shore downhole piston pump with no rods. Guidance to the electric and magnetic design of the motor is established. Two forms of analysis are proposed: the rotating electrical machines (conventional) based and the transmission matrix based. A model using the Finite Element Method is also described. Conventional and matricial solutions are compared to the Finite Element and tests results, showing good agreement. In a general sense, the work results show that the tubular motor may substitute the mechanical surface system and the rod string with advantage.

Eckert, Paulo Roberto January 2012 (has links)
This work aims the study and development of a linear actuator with permanent magnets applied to active suspension systems, with emphasis on vehicular suspension. That development takes into account specific features such as force, volume, force per volume ratio, stroke and frequency response. Together with the theoretical study the design of the actuator is carried out based on parametric simulation by means of finite elements which analyses qualitative and quantitative aspects that are important to make the project decision, specifically to define materials and geometry. To suit as an analysis tool it was employed an analytical modelling, which showed to be efficient because it was capable of producing faster results than the finite elements method to evaluate physical quantities of interest such as force and magnetic flux density. Finally and based on project aspects, a prototype was built which allowed to validate all models. Experimental and theoretical results showed a good agreement which led to conclude that the employed methods are efficient, providing subsidies to the studied application.

Identification of parameters of the tubular linear induction motor for the extraction of oil.

Rossini, Wagner Marques 22 February 2008 (has links)
This work presents the identification of parameters of the tubular linear induction motor for the extraction of oil, called MATÆOS - which is the Portuguese acronym for Asynchronous Tubular Motor for Application to Subterranean Oil Extraction. The first step to the identification of the motor parameters was the implementation of the supervisory and control system for the test bench. The model, which is the usual one containing resistors and inductors, represents the motor operating in steady-state. The parameter identification problem was written as an optimization problem based on the motor power balance. An error between the measured power and the one given by the model was defined and minimized with respect to the model parameters in correspondence to a given set of slipping frequencies. The numerical solution to this problem was obtained by an exhaustive search algorithm. This choice was made because the number of independent variables is small and a region containing the solution is known with a significant degree of confidence. The results obtained show that the nominal values of the model parameters differ slightly from those produced by the identification method. Possibly, such differences are due to the variations in the model caused by temperature changes and to the measurement errors. The identified model presented both a lower available force and a worst efficiency when compared to the nominal design values for the warm motor. Despite this the characteristic curve of the model was quite close to the nominal design one.

Contribuições ao projeto do motor linear a relutância variável / Contributions to the design of linear variable reluctance moto

Miranda, Breno Brito 18 July 2017 (has links)
The linear variable reluctance motor (LVRM) is an electric machine fed by direct current with excited phases in a given sequence. Characterized by operating in a wide range of speed variation, it is used in linear applications that converts electric energy into force and translation movement. The need for current switching devices and a control system requires a good estimate of the motor’s inductance profile. However, since the larger air gap makes analytical calculation difficult, this profile must be obtained by numerical methods. In this context, this work presents a linear motor of the 4 phase transverse flow type designed to move a sliding translation system of opening and closing. Robustness, simplicity of construction and reduced power are decisive in the choice of machine type. The finite element analysis (FEA) is applied in order to determine the performance, qualified by the self-inductance of phase coils and the propulsion force production capacity. The FEA is also used in the evaluation of the force ripple factor, highly present in this type of motor, besides the production of vibration and acoustic noise arising from ripple factor. / Dissertação (Mestrado)
