Porter - a contigüidade existente entre as personagens principais Alice e Pollyanna com a boneca de pano criada por Lobato, a irreverente Emília. Por esse motivo, localizamos nas traduções de Lobato uma tensão que se faz presente pela descaracterização das personagens dos originais, o que provoca questionamentos em função das falas das personagens em relação às atitudes e aos procedimentos. Dentro desta perspectiva, observamos que Monteiro Lobato traduziu as duas obras com os olhos de Emília o que descaracterizou a Alice britânica e a Pollyanna norte-americana dos originais. Para nos auxiliar na análise, trabalhamos com outras duas traduções das mesmas obras para compará-Ias com as de Monteiro Lobato. Para "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", trabalhamos com a tradução de Ana Maria Machado e para "Pollyanna" com a de Paulo Silveira o que acabou por nos oferecer melhor embasamento para a defesa da hipótese. O resultado da pesquisa foi que realmente as traduções lobatianas dessas duas obras traziam como personagens principais uma "Emilice", isto é, uma Alice brasileira e uma outra "Emilyanna", ou seja, uma Pollyanna brasileira / Abstract: This essay approaches, from an analysis of two translations made by Monteiro Lobato - "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll and "Pollyanna" by Eleanor H. Porter - the contiguity between the main characters Alice and Pollyanna and the rag doll character created by Lobato, the irreverent Emília. Thus, we have noticed in Lobato's translations a tension which is made present through the deprivation of the characteristics of the original characters, a fact that instigates questioning argument related to the lines of the characters in face of their attitudes and conduct. In this perspective, we have observed that Monteiro Lobato translated both works through the eyes of Emília, which deprived the British Alice and the American Pollyanna from their original characteristics. In order to have a better support for our analysis, we have worked with two other translations of the same woks, to compare with those made by Lobato. For "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", we have worked with Ana Maria Machado's translations and for "Pollyanna" with Paulo Silveira's. That ended up offering us a better foundation for the support of our theory. The result of the research was that Lobato's translations of both works brought as main characters an "Emilice", that is, a Brazilian Alice and an "Emilyanna" , that is, a Brazilian Pollyanna / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada
