Nenhuma vari?vel independente influenciou a acur?cia do LAE (p>0.05). / Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Odontologia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2014. / ABSTRACT of root canals (RC). Objective: To evaluate clinically associated factors with the accuracy of the electronic apex locator (EAL) Apex Finder A.F.A. 7005 in determination of apical constriction. Methodology: For each RC, one selected file type Kerr and coupled at EAL was inserted intracanal until stablished marking, 1 mm on the liquid-crystal display (LCD). The periapical radiograph correspondent the distance of the file tip to the tooth apex was classified as specify (0.5 to 1.5 mm), acceptable (0 to 2 mm) or imprecise (other steps). The agreement was analyzed according to the group of teeth, pulpal and periapical status, RC diameter and exploratory file diameter. The influence of independent variables was analyzed by Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation (p <0.05) tests. Results: The anterior teeth (n=21), premolars (n=20) and molars (n=33) provided RC 147, of which 43.5% were atresic. In 102 (69.4%) the pulp was necrotic, among which 70 (47.6%) had periapical radiolucency. High agreement between the electronic and radiographic measurement was obtained. It was found that 70.7% and 94.5% of the measurements are accurate and acceptable type, respectively. The accuracy of measurements correlated positively with exploratory files and negatively with the diameter of RC. No independent variable influenced the accuracy of LAE (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The Apex Finder provided measures of WL with high clinical acceptability in apical constriction, regardless of status pulp, tooth group, periapical status or diameter of the root canals.
