O eixo de discussão deste trabalho são as transformações recentes que estão ocorrendo em Lomba Grande, Município de Novo Hamburgo, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, em seu processo de transição rural/urbano, com ênfase nas mudanças em curso a partir de 1980. De uma área agrícola produtiva no passado, hoje Lomba Grande apresenta uma dinâmica socioespacial crescente, com diversificação das atividades econômicas e das formas de ocupação e uso do solo, constituindo-se cada vez mais em um espaço “híbrido” na periferia da região metropolitana. Nesta pesquisa, serão abordados alguns aspectos significativos deste fenômeno, que permitirão explicar, na escala local, as transformações advindas das atividades humanas neste espaço e as novas tendências da relação cidade-campo nesta contemporaneidade, sob influência da urbanização. / The main point of this research is the discussion of the recent transformations in Lomba Grande, a district of Novo Hamburgo, state of Rio Grande do Sul, in its process of rural/urban transition, focusing on the current changes since the 1980. From a productive agricultural area in the past, currently Lomba Grande presents a growing social and spatial dynamic, with diversification of economic activities and of the ways of occupation and use of the soil, becoming a “hybrid” space at the metropolitan area. In this research, it will be considered significant aspects of this phenomenon, which will explain, in the local scale, the transformations caused by the human activities in this space and the new trends of the city-country relation nowadays, under the influence of the urbanization.
