From this perspective, the issue will be addressed in its socio-cultural and musical aspects, seeking to understand the context in which this musical practice is inserted. For this, I will talk about the scientific field of ethnomusicology, ethnography and other issues like ritual, folklore, cultural identity, musical meaning and gender relations related to the object of study. To understand the context of the Ratoeira, I present some historical data on human settlement in the Santa Catarina coast, highlighting the influence of the Azorean colonization in the region. I talk about the processes of elaboration of a cultural identity in the Santa Catarina coast, based on the Azorean colonization origin. The native speech comes as a key element in the categorization of concepts and in clarifying the arguments presented in the work. I present a musical collection of everything that was collected in the fieldwork, featuring some popular tunes, and especially the Ratoeira, the focus of this research. I present some musical transcriptions accompanied by brief analysis of the material recorded in the fieldwork. Finally, I relate ethnographic data to selected bibliography, checking variations in regional musical practice and commenting on other cultural aspects / Esta dissertação de mestrado traz um estudo etnomusicológico sobre a Ratoeira, uma música de tradição oral típica do litoral catarinense. O tema será abordado em seus aspectos musicais e sócio-culturais, buscando compreender o contexto no qual esta prática musical se insere. Para isso falarei do campo científico da etnomusicologia, sobre a etnografia e outros temas ligados ao objeto de estudo como ritual, folclore, identidade cultural, significado musical e relações de gênero. Para compreender o contexto da Ratoeira, apresento alguns dados históricos sobre a ocupação humana no litoral catarinense, dando destaque à influência da colonização açoriana na região. Discutirei sobre os processos de elaboração da identidade cultural no litoral catarinense baseados na origem açoriana da população. O discurso nativo entra como um elemento chave na categorização de alguns conceitos e no esclarecimento das discussões apresentadas no trabalho. Faço um apanhado musical de tudo o que foi coletado em campo, apresentando cantigas de roda e principalmente a Ratoeira, foco desta pesquisa. Apresento algumas transcrições musicais acompanhadas de breves análises sobre o material registrado em campo. Por fim, relaciono dados etnográficos com a bibliografia selecionada, verificando variações musicais regionais nesta prática e comentando outros aspectos culturais
