Modellering av signalbehandlingen i ett cochleaimplantat och utvärdering av modellen. / Modeling of the signal processing in a cochlear implant and validation of the model.

af Ekenstam, Love January 2014 (has links)
A program that simulates the signal processing in a cochlear implant using the signal processing strategy ACE (Advanced Combination Encoder) was constructed. Its main purpose is to, in advance, predict and test different implant settings with the purpose to be able to predict individual patient's differences in implant settings.   The program was validated using output signals processed by Cochlear Limited using their own Matlab Toolbox for implant research, NMT (Nucleus Matlab Toolbox). Identical signals were processed by the program and then compared with NMT:s output. The outputs, produced with several different identical settings matched each other well.   The amplitude compression function, a vital part of the signal processing, also matched well, apart from a relative loss of strength at high input amplitudes. The program will now be used by the cochlear implant section at Uppsala University Hospital to try out individual settings for cochlear implant users. The hope for the future is that better implant settings will lead to improved speech and sound experience, especially, in the long run, with regards to music.

Bregaw, Mohamed Abdussalam 12 August 2013 (has links)
A Residential Energy Management System (REMS) in smart grid provides capability to manage a daily load curve in order to reduce power consumption and energy cost. Consequently, (REMS) offers significant benefits for both the electricity suppliers and consumers in terms of control and schedule time of use of major appliances. In recent years, however, the rate of energy demand has increased rapidly throughout the world while the price of energy has been fluctuating. Numerous methods for (REMS) are used; this thesis analyzes many candidate scenarios during peak load periods comparing to the tariff to reduce the usage and its associated costs. It presents simulated results of proposed (REMS) to provide an automated least cost demand response. The main approach will be to ensure the satisfaction of the requirements with constraints on efficient use of energy. Multiphasic system behaviors of smart appliances in (REMS) with a realistic manner are proposed. / This thesis examines many mathematical models of home appliances in order to calculate the physical quantities that reflect the parameters’ impact and the system behavior. Main contribution determines the optimal solution of (TOU) problem to reduce energy cost and determine the best operation time by using (Linear optimization technique).

Analysis and visualization of historical traffic data collected on the Stockholm highway system

Reim, Erich January 2013 (has links)
The congestion due to traffic is a worldwide occurrence in major cities, where also the biggest part of the human population lives. To be able to control and oversee the ongoing traffic development in cities, traffic operators use different methods to observe the current trend. This is done by collecting data from stationary sensors to mobile sensors like floating car data. The data collected from stationary sensors is stored in a central database. This historical traffic data is used for analysis of traffic behavior along the main roadway network in Stockholm. Areas which are highly congested can be located as well as areas where traffic flows without problems. This thesis deals with methods to analyze and visualize the traffic behavior based on historical traffic data, measured in the city of Stockholm. Therefore a toolbox is implemented which is used to figure out bottlenecks and typical speed and flow patterns along the Stockholm highway system. Based on the typical speed and flow patterns, it is possible to calculate areas that are affected of congestion and also to determine whether congestion appears due to an incident or a bottleneck.

Restructuring Option Chain Data Sets Using Matlab

Baker, Alison M 29 April 2010 (has links)
Large data sets are required to store all of the information contained in option chains. The data set we work with includes all U.S. exchange traded put and call options. This data set is part of a larger data set commonly referred to as the National Best Bid Offer (NBBO) data set. The national bid best offer is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) term for the best available ask price and bid price. Brokers must guarantee investors these prices on their trades. We have acquired data for the 5 year period from 2005 to 2009 for all U.S. traded options. Each year of data is approximately 6 gigabytes. The company, (DeltaNeutral - Options Data And End Of Day Downloads, 2010), from which we acquired the data, also has a software package, OptimalTrader, to process the data. For this data to be used in research projects, the data must be accessible by specific underlying security for selected date ranges. This type of data is more useful to the financial mathematics student than the output given by the software provided by DeltaNeutral. The software used in this data manipulation is Matlab. Each individual file of original data was parsed, and new files were written with some reformatting in which the original data was largely reorganized. The new organization will make searching for information from one stock or any specific group of stocks easier to achieve. We have created 3 m-files in Matlab which deal with reformatting the data, error handling, and searching through the original or reformatted data. The result is that new datasets can be created for further studying and manipulation. Future students working with this data should find this method, toolset, and the newly constructed datasets to be useful tools in working with options data and examining option chains.

Development of a Model and Simulation Framework for a Modular Robotic Leg

Youngsma, Katiegrace 13 June 2012 (has links)
"As research in the field of mobile robotics continues to advance, legged robots in different forms and shapes find a variety of applications on rough terrain where wheeled robots fail to operate in practice. For this reason, a modular legged robot platform is being developed at WPI. This research focuses on developing a mathematical model and then building a simulation to verify the model for a single leg for this platform. The robot platform is modular in the sense that leg modules can be removed and added to predetermined ports on the robot chassis. The modularity of a legged robot is a significant advancement in mobile robotics technology as it enables a single robot to take on different body configurations depending on circumstances and environment to achieve its goals. It also poses a challenge in terms of overall design as it requires autonomous operation of the leg. The goal for this research is to in part fulfill the need for a mathematical model for an autonomous leg. This research investigates the development of a kinematic and dynamic model for the leg, a step trajectory for walking, a simulation of the system to verify the dynamic model, and various functions and scripts to identify shortcomings within the model. This research uses Mathworks Matlab and Wolfram Mathematica to develop the mathematical model, and Matlab Simulink SimMechanics and Matlab functions to build a simulation. Both the mathematical model and simulation follow the classic design of other legged robots, utilizing Lagrangian dynamics, the Jacobian, and simulation tools. The result is a project that is unique in that it drives a robot leg almost independently with very limited communication to a central controller."

EMG Site: A MATLAB-based Application for EMG Data Collection and EMG-based Prosthetic Control

Boyd, William J 26 April 2018 (has links)
This thesis describes the system design of EMG Site, a MATLAB-based application for collection and visualization of surface electromyograms (EMGs) and the real-time control of an upper limb prosthesis, including details pertaining to the design of the software and the graphical user interface (GUI). The application consists of features that aid in the visualization of the collected EMG data and the control of a prosthesis. Visualization of the collected EMG data is handled in one of two ways: an oscilloscope-like view showing the raw EMG data collected with respect to time, or a radial plot showing the processed EMG data collected with respect to the site of EMG data collection on the arm. The control of a hand-wrist prosthesis is primarily regulated through the use of signal processing designed to relate EMG to torque and is visualized in the tracking window - a plotting window showing both a user-control cursor and an either static (or dynamic) computer-controlled target. This thesis concludes with a description of the real-time capabilities of the application regarding both the visualization of the collected EMG data as well as the control of a prosthesis.
