Um primeiro esforço interpretativo foi realizado para a composição - a partir de pesquisa bibliográfica e recurso a fontes primárias - de um cenário histórico das décadas de 1930 a meados de 1950, com o objetivo de contextualizar o cotidiano escolar e a produção de livros didáticos no ambiente social e cultural do recorte temporal da pesquisa. A partir desse esforço inicial, esta pesquisa concentrou-se numa análise compreensiva dos livros didáticos editados para o nível primário entre 1937 e 1956, bem como narrativas de memórias ouvidas de pessoas que freqüentaram a escola primária nesse período. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation aimed to understand how the didactic books integrated the political and cultural atmosphere and, specifically, educative practices at Brazilian elementary schools at the mid of the twentieth century. An initial interpretative attempt was made in order to compose – based on bibliographical research and primary sources – a historical Brazilian scenery of the 1930‟s until middle of 1950‟s, intending to contextualize schools everyday life and didactic books production within the social and cultural environment on that time. Out of this starting effort, this research focused on a comprehensive analysis of didactic books published between 1937 and 1956 for elementary level and also narratives of memories listened from people who were at elementary school at that time.
