The building circulates around an atrium which clearly shows the communication up the building and enters daylight. The bearing in the building lies on pillars in laminated wood that fram the atrium and makes a rhythm along the entire facade. Firewalls against adjacent houses and stairwells help to stabilize the construction. To cope with the long spans, I have chosen to use cross-glued wood in the joists. A thicker slab lies on a load-bearing inner ceiling that is cross laminated wood similar to a V-shaped truss in profile. The idea of the ceiling is to remove beams and enable installations in the empty spaces. Since there are few load-bearing walls inside the building, it is possible to easily change floor plans according to future needs. / Byggnaden cirkulerar kring ett atrium som tydlig visar kom- munikationen upp byggnaden och för in dagsljus. Bärningen i byggnaden ligger på pelare i limträ som ringar in atriumet och går som en rytm längs hela fasaden. Brandväggar mot intilliggande hus samt trapphus hjälper till att stabilisera. För att klara långa spännvidder har jag valt att använda korslimmat trä i bjälklagen. En tjockare skiva ligger ligger på ett bärande inner- tak som är skivor i något som liknar ett V-format fackverk i profil. Tanken med innertaket är att frångå balkar och möjlig- göra installationer i de tomma utrymmena. Eftersom det finns få bärande väggar inne i byggnaden, finns det möjlighet att lätt ändra planlösningar efter framtida behov.

The proposal presents an idea of Gnesta Community Center as a supportive addition to the town contributing space for convergence of cultural life, political discussions and festive gatherings. By allowing the buildings' activities to spill across borders and into the city space important connections to the inhabitants of Gnesta are created and the building is allowed to function as a natural meeting place. / Förlaget presenterar en idé om Gnesta Medborgarhus som ett stöttande tillägg till orten med plats för sammanstrålning av kulturliv, politiska diskussioner och festliga sammankomster. Genom att tillåta byggnadens aktiviteter att spilla över över gränser och ut i stadsrummet skapas viktiga kopplingar till invånarna och byggnaden tillåts att fungera som en naturlig mötesplats. Medborgarhusets möte med platsen har varit drivande i projektet.

Gnesta community center is located at the main square, right next to the railway station. As the city grows, a new center block is planned where the community center would be located on the eastern end of the block. My ambition was to create a building that reflects the small-town character found in Gnestaby working with materials from the site, intimate rooms and meetings with the citizen. By making use of the material from the old station house across the street, the buildings create a portico to the city. The meeting between the railway, the station building, the main square and the community center becomes a clear centerpiece in the city and a representative place for Gnesta. / Medborgarhuset i Gnesta är placerat vid det stora torget, precis i anslutning till järnvägsstationen. Då staden växer planeras ett nytt centrumkvarter där medborgarhuset skulle bli beläget på kvarterets östra gavel. Min ambition var att skapa en byggnad som reflekterar småstadskaraktären som finns i Gnestagenom att arbeta med material från platsen, intima rum och mötet med medborgaren. Genom att plocka upp materialiteten från det gamla stationshuset på andra sidan gatan skapar byggnaderna en portik till staden. Mötet mellan järnvägen, stationshuset, stora torget och medborgarhuset blir en tydlig mittpunkti staden och en representativ plats för Gnesta.

Det här projektet syftar till att bevara Malungs kulturhistoriska arv. Ett arv som i flera århundraden utgjorts av de skinn­traditioner och det hantverk som karaktäriserat orten, och som lärts ut från generation till generation. Det arv som legat till grund för att människor från ­första början kunnat bosätta sig på platsen, och som gjort att Malung kunnat växa sig till det samhälle det är idag. Det arv som Malungsbor i flera generationer har ­identifierat sig med men som nu riskerar att glömmas bort. I ett försök att ta med kunskaperna & traditionerna kring hantverket in i framtiden har jag skapat rum där dessa tillåts leva vidare, samtidigt som jag har försökt att tillgodose Malungs nuvarande behov. På platsen där min föreslagna byggnad är placerad har tidigare Malungs största & mest betydelsefulla garveri varit beläget. Garveriet har setts som en viktig byggnad som länge representerat Malung och som Malungsborna själva sett som en del av sin identitet och självbild. I juli 2014 brann dessvärre den gamla byggnaden ned och en del av Malungs kollektiva självbild förlorades med den. / This project aims to preserve Malungs cultural heritage. A heritage of leather craftsmanship which has defined the area in centuries and has been a big part of the local identity. A heritage which today risk to be forgotten. In an attempt to bring the knowledge & traditions around the leathercraft in to the future I have created spaces where it allows to live on. I have also aimed to answer to Malungs contemporary needs. The proposal is located on a site where a factory building, who for a long time characterized Malung and were an ­important part of the area’s identity, earlier were situated. Due to a fire in 2014 the ­building burnt down and a part of the cultural identity got lost with it.

The project represents two new established meeting points in Gnesta, whom connects the citizens with the local arrangements. The aim is to create an inviting atmosphere, as well as a well functioning building for corporates wich will reinforce the community.

My project for a civic hall in Gnesta has the overriding idea to face the square, where the streets Storgatan and Torggatan cross. I think this appeals to the strength of the site as it is a public building, but also, because the lake Frösjön is placed like a backdrop from that perspective. The design concept is to frame the site with two imposing buildings and to create an interesting room at the space in between, the place for an atrium. At the space in between, certain parts of the civic hall will be exposed as public from the viewpoint inside the atrium, bathed in sunlight. The public environment will be experienced as being outside, yet one is inside. The glass is meant to allow for experiencing the weather outside by its transparency. The façade in brick of the two building volumes become the loadbearing walls for the inside of the atrium – adding to the feeling of being outside. / Förslaget för medborgarhus i Gnesta har som övergripande idé att vända sig mot torget, där Stor- och Torggatan korsas. Ett nytt medborgarhus i Gnesta bredvid tågstationen i centrum. Betongskivor som är ca 6 gånger 6,5 meter i storlek bär utstickande huvudbjälklag. Skivorna är vinklade 9 grader relativt mot bjälklagets kontur och byter riktning på nästa nivå. Smala höga fönster är monterade i slitsarna. Vissa väggskivor är ersatta med stora glaspartier. Eftersom det är dubbelhöjd mellan huvudbjälklagen gavs möjlighet att placera in entrésolplan mellan dessa. En till synes fristående betongvägg är trappans ryggrad och leder trappan runt sig uppåt. Ljuset som sipprar in mellan väggskivorna är den viktigaste faktorn i byggnaden och detta definierar upplevelsen av ljusets spel över dagen. Bibliotek, restaurang/bar, mötesrum, vigselrum, hörsalar, utställningsyta, aktivitetskontor och vandrarhem finns Gnestas nya och välkomnande medborgarhus. / A new Civic center for small Town Gnesta, Sweden. The building sits next to the train station in the center of Gnesta. Constructed in Concrete with 6 by 6,5 meter wallbslabs which are angled at nine degrees relative to the outline of the building. There is a tall narrow window in gap. The slabs change directions at the next main floor levell. The double height main floor slabs protrudes and rest on the wall slabs. This enables Three meazzanine levels. A seemingly free standing slab support the stairs that leads upwards. Some wall slabs are omitted and replaced with glazed sections. The light that seeps in through narrow openings between overlapping wall sections are defining for the experience inside the building. Library, Restaurant/bar, Meeting rooms, Exhibtion space, Ceremony room, Flexible Office space, Concert hall and a Hostel fits inside this new and welcoming Civic center.

Mer information på sid. 5. / A fictional proposal for a community center in Gnesta.The building site is based on a draft for the planned development of Gnesta citycenter. The objective for me was to create a living and breathing center for the community, that would communicate the function within through its transparent facade.

BACKGROUNDThe new footbridge is located a short walk from the medieval city center in Arboga. The idea of a pedestrian overcrossing was a result of a group project during the fall semester; a solution that reactualizes the creek Arbogaån which lost its role as a vital social function for the industries when the canal was built in the 17th century. The footbridge was also developed in consideration of the issue of flooding, a problem that will increase in the area because of the climate changes according to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency.  Our aim was to intertwine the creek with the canal, in order to create a joint and cohesive walking trail. We wanted to develop the right pre-conditions for hiking locals, as well as create opportunities for a new sustainable and nature-based tourism.  THE PROJECT House of the Footbridge – Arboga Citizens’ House affiliates with the new overcrossing, becoming its beginning or end depending on your route. Here, the straightforward character of the footbridge is fragmented and made into pieces. Instead of leading towards extensive croplands it welcomes its visitors with the embracing rooms of architecture; a place where building and footbridge coalesce and make place for elements that frame the existing plot. The house turns toward Arbogaån, toward the industrial area and the big silo on the other side of the water. It continues the ongoing dialogue between Arboga city center and the creek as part of their memorable and ever-changing relationship.  House of the Footbridge is complete with spaces for club activities, culture, and meeting rooms. A restaurant with a terrace and a summer café in the courtyard is added, along with a place for swimming in the creek, saunas, and changing rooms. There is also a hostel and conference opportunities in the building. / BAKGRUNDNågra promenadminuter öster om den medeltida stadskärnan i Arboga tar den nya naturspången vid. Idén om en upplyft promenadväg i trä utvecklade vi under höstterminen; ett stadsplaneringsmässigt grepp för att reaktualisera Arbogaån som sedan bygget av Hjälmare kanal kommit att förlora sin samhällsviktiga roll (då i form av transportväg för industrierna). Den nya naturspången tog även hänsyn till att Arbogaån - till skillnad från Hjälmare kanals kontrollerade vattennivåer - riskerar att översvämmas vid kraftig nederbörd (ett problem som med klimatförändringarna förväntas förvärras enligt MSBs beräkningar).  Med naturspången ville vi knyta samman ån med kanalen och på så sätt skapa en gemensam och sammanhållen vandringsled. Vi ville skapa förutsättningar för vandringsglada lokalinvånare men även främja möjligheter till en ökad hållbar naturturism vilken tar hänsyn till ekologi och miljö.  PROJEKTETSpångens hus - Arboga medborgarhus ansluter sig till naturspången och utgör dess början eller dess slut beroende på vilket håll man kommer ifrån. Här har spångens böljande men tydliga väg fragmenterats och brutits upp. Istället för att leda ut mot vidsträckta åkerlandskap, leder den in mot arkitekturens omslutande rum där byggnad och spång smälter samman och ramar in den befintliga tomten. Byggnaden vänder sig mot vattnet, mot industriområdet och den stora silon på andra sidan. Framför allt fortsätter den det pågående samtalet mellan Arboga tätort och Arbogaån som del av en minnesvärd och föränderlig relation.  Medborgarhuset huserar allaktivitet med rum för föreningsliv, kulturverksamhet och möteslokaler för allmänheten. Även restaurang och café med tillhörande terrass läggs till. Verksamheten utökas med en badplats, bastu och omklädningsrum. För tillfälliga gäster finns enklare övernattningsmöjligheter i form av vandrarhem, med tillhörande kök och dusch. Verksamheten infattar även konferensmöjligheter.
