<p> The purpose of this project was to write a grant proposal to develop a mental health program for foreign born Latinos with depression. The goal of this project is to provide mental health services consisting of individual and group therapy to this at risk group in Service Provider Area 6 (SPA 6).</p><p> Research shows that SPA 6 in Los Angeles County is an area lacking adequate mental health services for foreign born Latinos. SHIELDS for Families, Inc. is the target agency chosen to provide services with staff co-located at St. Francis Medical Center in the city of Lynwood. The California Wellness Foundation was chosen as the funding source.</p><p> If funded, the project would provide culturally modified treatment in depression at no cost to adult Latino immigrants, a high risk group, in SPA 6. Actual submission of this grant was not a requirement for this project. </p>

<p> This quantitative study investigates the relationship between video game usage, video game addiction, compulsive Internet use, and subjective well-being. The key variables were measured using three different scales: The Game Addiction Scale; the Compulsive Internet Use Scale; and the Flourishing scale. 121 participants over the age of 18 partook in the study. The empirical results demonstrate a statistically significant, negative correlation between addictive video game usage and well-being. Video game addiction and compulsive Internet use were both found to be negatively correlated with subjective well-being.</p>

Impact of psychoeducational advocacy training as compared to psychoeducational support group as an empowering tool for female survivors of domestic violence

<p> The purpose of this thesis project was to write a grant proposal to secure funding for &ldquo;Power to the She,&rdquo; a program for low-income, single African American mothers with children in the child welfare system. A literature review was conducted to examine topics related to mental health issues among African American women and how they impact parenting. The purpose of the proposed program was to improve the emotional, mental state, and overall functioning of low-income, single African American mothers involved in the child welfare system through the implementation of services such as culturally congruent and trauma focused group therapy, self-esteem building, parenting trainings, and empowerment presentations to facilitate dialogue around systems of oppressions that impact their daily lives. The Jason Hayes Foundation was identified as the potential funder. The actual submission or funding of this grant proposal was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to write a grant proposal to fund educational workshops for members of multi-disciplinary teams of professionals who work with people who hoard. The overall goal of the workshops is to educate the members of multi-disciplinary teams on hoarding in Orange County, California as well as members of the community. An extensive literature review on hoarding was conducted to increase knowledge on hoarding behavior, hoarding disorder, engagement, assessment, interventions, members of agencies and organizations working as a multi-disciplinary team and community resources. After researching for funding, The California Wellness Foundation was selected for this submission of the grant proposal. The host group of the proposed program was the Orange County Task Force on Hoarding. The actual submission and/or the funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project. </p>

<p> The purpose of this grant proposal was to locate and identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a program that would provide SFBT training to mental health professionals employed and/or interning at the Orange Coast College Student Health Center in Orange County, California. An extensive literature review was conducted, which increased knowledge about the special mental health needs of Community College students, particularly within the Orange Coast College student population. A search for potential funding sources via the Internet and a grant database resulted in the selection of the California Mental Health Services Authority's Community College Student Mental Health Program Grant as the best funding source for this project. Subsequently, a grant was written to support the implementation of the proposed SFBT Training seminar at Orange Coast College in California. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to develop and fund a combination of support groups and respite component for parents and caregivers who have children with Autism. The Host Agency that was able to best fit the criteria of this project was Piecing Together, a division of Autism Treatment Services in Tracy, California.</p><p> After an in-depth review of the literature on Autism, it was determined by the grant writer that there was a great need to provide more family support to supplement Applied Behavioral Analysis services. A thorough search for potential funding sources led to the California Wellness Foundation as the funding source for this project. A grant application was composed to support this project.</p><p> Actual submission and/or funding of the grant were not required for the successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources and write a grant application to obtain funding for a Horticultural Therapy program at the consumer-operated, mental health self-help center in Santa Rosa, California, The Wellness and Advocacy Center. This program will provide urban dwelling adolescent, adult and senior consumers of mental health services with opportunities for healing, recovery and skill building through increased access to nature, gardening and outdoor activities. </p><p> A literature review was conducted in order to learn about the benefits of horticultural therapy for various populations including those who suffer from mental health issues. A search for potential funders was undertaken using the Internet and the Foundation Center's database. The Burpee Foundation was identified as the best fit for the program. Actual submission of this grant and/or funding for this program were not requirements for successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to analyze Assembly Bill 1421, known as Laura's Law, from a social work perspective of recovery-oriented care. Gil's framework was used to assess primary and secondary data from journal articles, government publications, and law reviews. A review of the literature was conducted to understand the historical background of coercive mental health treatment. Coercive treatment has been a pervasive problem generated from public fear and misconceptions about the association between mental illness and danger. Laura's Law was established as a result of the murder of 19 year-old Laura Wilcox by an individual with serious mental illness. The law's primary stated objective was to provide preventative mental health services to those identified as most in need before tragedy struck. Significant shortcomings were discovered within the analysis and alternatives to this policy are suggested as well as the implications for social work policy and practice.</p>

<p> There is estimated to be 18,000 Cambodians living in Long Beach, California. Approximately 50% of this population has suffered from depression or mental health conditions after 25 years of resettlement from the Khmer Rouge war in 1975. The researcher has found that there are various mental health related stressors such as PTSD, and depression, that Cambodians have struggle with after the post-migration. </p><p> The purpose of this proposal project was to write a grant to fund a psychoeducational group for Cambodian survivors and their family members in the City of Long Beach to address and raise awareness on mental health. The goals were to decrease mental health symptoms, provide coping skills and improve access to community resources. The grant writer identified the Weingart Foundation as a potential funding source for this program. The actual submission and funding of this grant were not a requirement for the successful completion of this project. </p>
